I propose a new rule: You may ONLY post the TITLE of the ARTICLE you are posting in you title, that way all possible flame bait is eliminated and we dont get moderators joining up with their side of the view.
I propose that you pay attention to the current rule about not calling out moderators when we're posting as members. :frown:
I am just stating that within 2 posts, i had already said the topic was intentional trollish flamebait, all that had to be done was it to be adjusted... are you now saying that my proposed rule would not cut down on intentional flamebait topics?

Bullshit! What you actually said was:

Trollish topic, the GOP did not state this, a Chief of Staff member of one individual member of the GOP... flamebait

You tried to minimize the presence of Republicans speaking at the "Values Voter Summit." I disputed that by linking to the list of speakers, which includes many Republicans, including many current and former GOP office holders and party officials, and identifying the sponsors of this religious right wingnut fuster cluck for exactly who they are.

A staff member (pun probably intentional, not really sure) made the statement, not an elected official, not the GOP. I'm not really sure what's going to be "Epic" other than continued hatred between the two sides of the political fence, as if we don't already have enough of that

I guess we can ignore anything Rahm Emanuel says from now on since he's only a staff member and not an elected official.

No, technically the GOP didn't endorse this guy's views, but you'd probably have a hard time at the value voter's summit finding too many people who would criticize or disagree with him. It doesn't help the GOP to have senatorial chief's of staff making these types of statements. He also said 11 year old boys hate gays and we should look to them because that's a rational natural response to homosexuality. This would explain a lot of the intelligent rhetoric coming outta that sector these days.

I'm sure most if not all the Republicans in here agree.

Sadly people who hate themselves and that's everybody have a perverted need for other forms of satisfaction. We have a vacuum at the core of out being and one way we try to fill it is with sex. So, instead of sex being a cherry on the top of a wonderful cake called love, it becomes a disgusting lust for base pleasure. In this way, day by day, we further degrade our already enormously drained psyches, and then we boast about how sick we are because our sickness is so deep and pervasive that we imagine it to be normal. Watching porn is like shitting on your own head. Porn is produced by sad people who lack self respect and are acting as if they feel great so that moronic you, with your fantasy stimulated, can imagine these folk are having sex with you. What they are actually doing is perverting a sacred act for money that we, in our need, willingly give over. You are being fished and the worm is your dick. And after slobbering all over your selves you will jump on the forum here and argue with others about how rational you are. You don't buy a Santa in the sky but the lust of your sexual imagination puts the spaghetti monster to shame. Hehehehehehe

Sound a little fundamentalist to me. I don't think sex has to be about love only. I do think that you should at least respect your sexual partner and treat them with dignity. I agree with the bolded part (in general), but at the same time...I am not convinced that it has to be that way. If society didn't use sexual repression to degrade people's happiness then maybe people wouldn't fulfill these needs in such a degrading manner. I don't think that the fundamentalist view that sex must be reserved for "love only" situations is helpful in eliminating the harmful aspects of pornography.

1.) Rev. Wright, if I remember correctly, lost a large part of his congregation and Barry O turned away from him after making his stupid remarks during the campaign.

2.) Just because Coburn's Chief of Staff said something stupid and no one at the event has publicly called him an idiot doesn't mean that his comment is now part of the official GOP platform.

---

While Carrie Prejean is nice and all, Sarah Palin was supposed to be the top speaker at the summit... but she didn't show up. I don't know what's up with that woman. Many people say she's an important figure within the GOP but she never shows up to any of the big events she's signed up for. Always cancels. It doesn't really look like she's got much going for her anyway, if you go by the straw poll conducted at the summit though the voters might have felt slighted. The numbers were released on 09/21.

Huckabee : 170
Romney : 74
Pawlenty : 73
Palin : 72
Pence : 71
Gingrich : 40
Jindall : 28
Santorum : 15
Ron Paul : 13
Undecided : 31

I'm surprised Huckabee got over twice as many votes as anyone else but I'm even more surprised at how incredibly close second place is. If anything knocks down Huckabee between now and 2012 (and I don't know how palettable Huckabee is to the general populace because I don't know him too well) this could be a brawl.

Politico had a poll regarding the summits poll as well. The poll numbers could be skewed by Dems voting for Palin but she wins by a landslide. Romney leads Huckabee for second here. I'd like to point out, however, that "Someone else" can be many "someone else"s, so the real third place-er should be Huckabee.

Who should have won the presidential straw poll at the Values Voter Summit?
Sarah Palin : 6307
Mitt Romney : 1374
Someone else. : 1330
Mike Huckabee : 1057
Tim Pawlenty : 373
Mike Pence : 212
Total Votes : 10653

I don't see how anyone can say Palin is a important figure in the GOP. The women abondoned her job. screw her.

I have no desire to hear anything she has to say.

I'm amused.

When any member of the Obama administration says (or at one time said) something, fingers are pointed at Obama himself. However, our conservative friends in this thread are getting up in arms about receiving the reverse treatment.

Amusing.

The Dems did the same thing with the Bush administration. This is nothing new, it's done by both sides all the time. You should search back a couple of years, the phrase "the buck stops here" was used all the time by the Dems complaining about anything that was done during the Bush administration.

I'm not saying they don't - I'm also amused by the "well THEY did it to us, so WE can do it to them!" attitude.

Hypocrisy is hypocrisy. Wrong is wrong. I'm not a member of either party, and I'm not really liberal or conservative, so don't worry - I'd be mocking them for doing it, too.

Ummm.... The putz making the statement is the Chief of Staff of a sitting U.S. Senator at "one of the final events of the "Values Voter Summit." Care to explain exactly who comprises that "Values Voter Summit" and why a sitting U.S. Senator and his Chief of Staff were speakers? While you're at it, you can explain the presence of other religious right wingnut Republican speakers, including:

Rep. Michele Bachmann
Gary Bauer
Bill Bennet
Ken Blackwell (RNC Vice Chairman)
Rep. Roy Blunt
Rep. John Boehner
Rep. Eric Cantor
Gov. Mike Huckabee
Sen. Mitch McConnell
Ed Meese
Bill O'Reilly
Gov. Tim Pawlenty
Gov. Rick Perry
Carrie Prejean
Rep. Tom Price
Gov. Mitt Romney
Rep. Chris Smith

Nope... No Republican viewpoints here.

Who organized this fuster cluck? FRC Action, the "legislative action arm of the religious right wingnut Family Research Council."

About FRC Action

Fighting for the American Family

FRC Action (formerly American Renewal), the non-profit and tax-exempt legislative action arm of Family Research Council, was founded in 1992 to educate the general public and cultural leaders about traditional American values and to promote the philosophy of the Founding Fathers concerning the nature of ordered liberty.

FRC Action is a 501(c)(4), non-profit education and lobbying organization based in Washington, D.C. FRC Action is dedicated to preserving and advancing the interests of family, faith, and freedom in the political arena.

FRC Action has underwritten the costs of video campaigns on public policy issues, supported advocacy advertising on these issues, and provided the nation's political parties with information on traditional American values.

FRC Action seeks to fortify the traditional foundations of civil society through efforts to educate, inform and influence elected officials in support of the country's historic ideals of equality under the law, and the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness on which the nation was founded.

Nope... No political agenda here.

See above... If it helps you to keep track, it was far more than "one idiotic member of the GOP." They had enough sitting and ex-Republican politicians and other "idiotic members of the GOP" that you'd need extra fingers and toes to count. :Q

And don't forget the intellectual musings of the silicone enhanced and be-coned Carrie Prejean (who can't count that high). :p

Palin wasn't there because she was busy embarrassing herself in China.

Apparently watching porn does make you gay....if you're a Republican politician. That explains it.

M: When something must be this way or that it is repression. What I am talking about is truth, what actually is better, not what you shove down people's throats. People ARE sexually ill because religion has made sex dirty. There is nothing dirty about it. But when the feeling is there that sex is dirty, sex for such people IS dirty.

Good sex is part of the glue that bonds loving couples together. Make that the standard and condemn folk who fall short and you create sexual repression. Create that and you have people who have sex who believe in the rules handing out guilt trips who have it in certain ways. These folk then look at what they feel and condemn themselves. They you have those who in reaction to guilt, rebel, thinking they can cure how they feel by ignoring it. One is as sick as the other.

I guess that means that Rev. Wright spoke for everyone in his Church and religion when he said the Jews are keeping him from speaking to Obama, and that the CIA gives crack to blacks.

I'm guessing it's a pretty safe bet that most people in the audience were in general agreement with this particular speaker.

so now we are making assumptions?

I am, when I said "I'm guessing it's a pretty safe bet that most people in the audience were in general agreement with this particular speaker."

I think you just have a different "ideal" than I do. I don't really think that someone needs to be romantically in love with a person to have sex with them. I can see your point that if someone is going to reproduce with someone else that its better if they feel a strong connection so that they will handle the result properly, however, I don't think there is anything wrong with having casual sex as long as you are doing it in a respectful and safe manner. I don't think that porn is inherently bad. I do agree that the people who view it have little regard for how the person behind the camera ended up in the position they are in. To be fair though, this is true for any occupation. Most of us sell our bodies to someone else for a time so that we can make money. Personally I don't find a lifetime of sitting in a chair for 8 hours a day doing things that I don't want to honestly do any more degrading than if someone wanted to pay me to have sex on tape. I am not downplaying the fact that the porn industry has some quite disturbing aspects that should be addressed for a healthier humanity. My main point is that I think that we could have a sexually open society where people could fulfill their desires without preying upon those who were basically mentally destroyed as children.

I have no idea what the rest of the room is thinking. Who knows if they are thinking at all?

It is what it is however, a testbed for GOP wedge issues for the next election cycle. The lecture lineup is a preview for what's to come (and already going on) and much of it has very little to do with Christianity, unless you actually think this was a theocratic debate on Jesus' stance on illegal immigration or role of central banks in moderating economic cycles and Michelle Bachman is a credible authority on such. This "pron is gay" line is so stupid its clearly DOA. Doesn't help either when the messenger party is full of closed repressed homosexuals.

Other than that its a pretty empty bucket of retreads from previous elections. How many times can you ban gay marriage?
G/L w/ the T-Bag and Illegal Immigrants campaigns.
