The Democrats need to grow a fscking spine. They're as worthless as the Republicans when it comes to serving America's best interests.

That's hyperbole - most of them vote far better than the Republicans, no comparison - but you are absolutely right that they need to fight the Republicans much more.

Senate GOP pledges to block all bills until tax dispute resolved

Bwahahaha!

In which make believe world are you living where the GOP will comprimize on anything? You know damn well they will except nothing less than extending the tax cuts as they are.

"Before meeting with Obama today, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear again that Republicans are not looking to compromise.
"How about we start with this?" McConnell said. "No tax hikes on anybody. No tax hikes on anybody, period." "

Now tell me again how the republicans are ready to RESOLVE this without purely extending the cuts

Let the tax cuts expire. Then put up a bill to extend it to the middle class, and only for 2 years.

At this point I agree with letting them all expire, the cuts for the middle class where only 1-2% anyway as opposed to 4-5% for the higher brackets.

And even though insignificant the 1-2% hit on the middle class will pretty much guarntee the GOP gets hammered in 2012

????

That makes 0 sense, thats like saying don't make another house payment until the house is paid off.

Actually no, it's much more like saying don't start gambling at the racetrack because you "know you'll win" with money you don't have until the house it paid off.

Really? Their single top priority is tax cuts for the very richest Americans, to the exclusion of all else?

No, this has very little to do with the tax cuts for the wealthy, that's just typical left wing class warfare bull. They are setting the tone and saying "no, you are not going to just shove everything through anymore, we're going to make you work with us to come up with solutions we can all agree on". That's what they were voted in to do.

Are they against middle class tax cuts? Why would they have to be shoved through?

Why do you assume that any significant portion of the country is smart enough to realize that the republicans made their taxes higher rather than that muslim in the white house. Everyone knows it's the president's fault.

Your so full of crap 🙁 The Bush tax cuts were class warfare straight up, giving a small bone to the middle class while significantly cutting taxes on the rich. LET THEM EXPIRE!!! I'll gladly pay my extra percent or two

Good, I hope they do it. The Republicans are so lost in the crazy world of their base that they think this is what the country wants. If they actually go through with this, it's pretty clear that they've learned nothing from Newt Gingrich's meltdown in 1994, and this will just lead to them taking another spanking. If they won't act like adults, they will get what they deserve.

Go for it GOP! Block everything! I dare you.

No, the gop will twist it around and say the dems raised taxes on everybody.

If they are successful in doing that, the Democrats deserve to lose. You put up a bill to renew the tax cuts on those under $250,000, and you make them filibuster it until taxes go up.

This is so easy the messaging writes itself, the only thing Democrats have to fear is their own ineptitude. (which, okay, is a big thing to fear)

They don't have the numbers or support in the house to pass such a bill.

I find this news disappointing and a little shocking, I think everyone knew this would be their unstated position, but to just come straight out and declare extending tax cuts for the richest americans to be their #1 priority and threatening to filibuster any other legislation is just childish and only hurts perception of the GOP in the long run.

I didn't think this was in their "mandate"🙁

Excellent strategy-it makes their priorities crystal clear-especially when they haven't made the slightest effort to fund the cost continuing the tax cut for the richest 2% will do to the federal budget.

Face it, the Bush tax cuts were a dismal failure from the beginning. They failed as economic stimulus-they were supposed to pay for themselves by increased economic activity and they never did. They contributed to wrecking the federal budget and ramping up the deficiency under Bush. The only thing positive that can be said about them is they were popular with the voters-which is all 99% of the politicians care about.

Obama should say if the GOP can come up with an acceptable revenue neutral plan that includes the upper 2% tax cuts, he'll sign it. Otherwise he should do the responsible thing and let the GOP block renewal of any of the tax cuts. It's time for Obama to show some leadership and stand up to these guys.

BTW the GOP does not have the power to block all other bills until the new session of Congress takes effect-in January, after the tax cuts expire.

Talk about bull. It has everything to do with tax cuts for the wealthy, and they aren't saying 'work with us', they're saying their top priority is more for the richest.
