McCain/Palin tried this already, and look how well it worked for them.

Only two people left in the GOP anyway... Dick (I even shoot my friends in the face, so what's the big deal about a little torture) Cheney and Rush (I want America to Fail) Limbaugh.

Next.

This may be the stupidest political resolution ever. It truly is like children in the playground.

Almost like liberals trying to rebrand themselves as "progressive" because of how dirty the word "liberal" is?

Tell us you are unaware that there was a previous Republican campaign to make the word "liberal" sound dirty.
.

And the liberal's FAILURE to embrace their ideology and instead ran from it thus cementing the notion.

Thanks for the quick response, OCguy.

They know exactly who they are. The problem is that their beliefs (as defined by their actions) are wrong for most people. No amount of spin will change this. They have to actually change or the death spiral will continue.

The death of the party will not be a bad thing. Political parties come and go. Something will arise from the ashes in combination with new, more reasonable ideas and people.

Basically, Republicans are essentially children

Remember the time Democrats were out of power and they held a resolution to rebrand Republicans as the "Republican Fascist Party"? Yeah, i don't remember that either.

Seriously, does the GOP even know how much trouble it's in? Any reasonable adult will see how childish this is. As inept as the GOP is, this is probably one of their more pathetic moments in politics.

If I remember correctly over the last few years all of the Republicans were branded NEOCON whether they were actually neocons or not. It was especially popular on these forums. Funny enough it isn't used quite as frequently around here anymore now that the tables have turned.

You do not remember correctly. People were referred to as Neocons when they were espousing the ideas and philosophical leanings of (can you guess?) Neo-Conservatives.

Furthermore, Neocon is a real political platform that many in the Republican Party, and many members of the previous administration are proud members of.

Conversely, calling all Democrats "Socialists" is simply meant to slander.

It looks like you're suggesting that the neocons hijacked the party in spite of 'regular' republicans. The 'regular' republicans were unable to stand up for themselves - unable to resist the barbarians.

Hah its so amazing that you feel that way. Neocon has been a term around for a long time. So has socialist. However, as witnessed on these very forums for a long long time, the word neocon was definitely used towards everyone representing a non-liberal idea. I know first hand, being non-dem and non-gop just how often it was used...

Umm.... NO! It's too boring to repost the whole, long, convoluted history of the ever-changing meaning of the term, "neoconservative," but you can read it, here. However, this quote should be enough to confirm the link between it's current usage and the Bushwhackos:

In January 2009, at the close of President George W. Bush's second term in office, Jonathan Clarke, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, proposed the following as the "main characteristics of neoconservatism":
  • "a tendency to see the world in binary good/evil terms
  • low tolerance for diplomacy
  • readiness to use military force
  • emphasis on US unilateral action
  • disdain for multilateral organizations
  • focus on the Middle East".

Chrysler case of getting screw over by Obama seems like a pretty socialist idea to me. Screw over big business/ secure creditor and spread the money/wealth to the union.

There's a very primtive brain function that reacts to 'us' and 'them the enemy'.

Republican propagandists often tap into it. It's that simple.

The Republican Party has an agenda that wouldn't hold up too well in public. It's pretty much to oppose the US revolution that overthrew corrupt concentration of power and wealth and give the people democracy, by doing so within the constraints of democracy, using the available tools: making big money donations only they have a crucial part of the system, using propaganda to get voters to vote for them using whatever slogans work, etc.

So you see the Republicans always, always using the 'enemy' argument, whether it was saying FDR would doom the nation, or that the government was infiltrated by communists who wanted to overthrow the country, or that JFK was far too liberal and unable to protect the nation as it needed, the 'commie' and 'socialist' stuff has been abused by them as an attack as long as the words have existed. Other variations include the Willie Horton 'soft on crime' type themes, the implication that Republicans are better religiously, and others.

In my view, these propaganda campaigns are insidious - they work on a very irrational level so that the people who fall for them become highly, irrationally biased against the 'enemy', not for rational policy differences, but almost in a programmed manner, where they view everything 'the enemy' does with great animosity and suspicion, and give great latitude to 'their side' because anything they do wrong is small compare the importance of 'beating the enemy'.

You see this for example when Obama rolls out a tax cut plan saying he'll cut taxes for 95% of Americans more than his opponent, and the righties instead of saying they agree with that, attack it - saying 'you can't trust him' or 'it's trying to buy votes' (without noting the hypocrisy they don't say that about their side doing it) or simply ignoring the facts and declaring him the bigger taxer whateve his policy.

It's a poisonous culture in which democracy cannot function as needed rationally - merely in the mechanics of the propaganda victims voting for their side.

But it does help a side with a bad agenda to be electable, as they run on the flag and the work ethic and honesty in government and fiscal restraint and puppy dogs.

You are mistaken.

By far, more people have been called Nazi's, Bush Apologists, Ditto-Heads, Morons, Racists, Douche Bags, Bush-Wackos, Non-Profs and Fascists than were ever called Neocons.

An unnamed source reporting on something that hasn't happened.

Surprised you didn't turn this into an issue of Republicans somehow oppressing blacks.

Yep, if a person or party is smeared with tar and sprinkled with feathers from head to toe, and is running around in circles and flapping their arms wildly without a head, full of frustration, anger, resentment, jealousy, rage, inconsolable guilt and facing a long bleak future of being cast aside, ignored and marginalized due to pursuing a horrendously and spectacularly failed ideology that was chiseled in the cornerstone of the grandiose mansion he/she/they once built and lived in, he/she/they'd inevitably come up with that exact kind of weak knee-jerked self-defeating propaganda too.

I guess being a non-partisan indy makes me see things slightly different than the partisans. Just chiming in with how I felt based on the tone all of the conversations used to take about a year ago... Example:

"I'm not for the environment"
"YOU NEOCON"

That was basically how it used to go on this forum. Honestly, I find it hilarious how people could really forget...

The problem is that HERE it was not used in that way and that is my entire point. Anyone who had an argument counter to what a hardcore Dem would believe was labeled NEOCON. I should know, I'm for issues on both sides but never more vehemently attacked than at any point where I would dare agree with anything seen as a Republican/NEOCON ideal ~12 months ago. Labeled as a neocon, etc. While you may not have been party to the "misuse" of the word that doesn't mean it didn't happen here with great frequency.

Oh how we forget...

Actually, I sort of am... But please enlighten me. Who are the reps current leaders, what direction are they heading, and what is thier plan? I would be interested to see you answer this since the party leadership cannot.

Disagreeing with everything Obama says and does, and hoping things get worse so Obama's popularity wanes, is NOT a plan.

After reading the past four pages, I have come to the conclusion, this is another liberal circle jerk thread... its just like the "Bush lost" circle jerk.. instead, this is a "GOP suck" circle jerk. People know that the GOP is at its nadir and at this current point, there really isn't much that can be done. Have fun libs dancing and jerking at the down and out GOP. Feel free to kick the GOP in the nuts when its down. Oh, don't forget to gloat.. You have won. Congratulations.

edit.

I'm done with this thread. Don't want to get an STD or anything... feel free to keep on wacking..
