Good for them. They'll need it.

Fortunately for the GOP, the dems, led by loons like Pelosi and her ilk, have made people keenly aware that no matter how bad your government looks, it can always get worse.

The dems have done the GOP a great service. They've shown independents what their plans are, people are starting to wake up to the frightning reality of just how badly the three headed monster of Pelosi / Reid / Obama can wreck the country. Now it's showing up in fundraising.

GOP fundraising boost

Note: normally, during midterm elections, the party in power raises way more funds than the other party.

The major drivers in the last two federal elections were George Bush, the Iraqi war, and the economy. The GOP took a big hit because of these.

The political landscape has changed. Mr Bush is gone and the Iraqi war is pretty much off the front page. The GOP has fired up its base with the demonization of Mr Obama.

The midterm elections will be driven by the economy. Since the GOP have opposed Mr Obama's domestic policies, if the economy shows clear signs of turning around the GOP will not be big winners in 2010 elections.

I doubt that classic GOP themes:

Xenophobia, lawdy the homosexuals and immigrants are coming!
Taxcuts for the wealthy.
The only good Foreign policy is hardline.
Our religion is better than yours.
Guns are US.
The federal government is evil.

are going to be enough for them to win back control of the two elected branches of government.

We should not be in anyway surprised in a spike in GOP fund raising.

Here we have a reform president after nearly a decade of stagnation talking about massive changes in health care and financial
changes. In the grand scheme of things overdue, but for the worthless fatcats in these industries. They open their wallets wide, while crying GOP save me. So the GOP hosts a bunch of tea parties and uses scare tactics FUD. And yah Hooray the parasites are saved.

Its possible that progressives have pretty much stopped donating until the Democrats pass a Public Option instead of the Baucus Insurance Company Whoring bill. I donate to MoveOn and that's it whereas before I'd give money to campaigns.

I don't think the repubs demonizing Obama would ever be very effective at convincing the independents who personally like Obama a lot. Frankly, the dems have done a pretty good job of giving the opposition amo. No matter how you look at it, there's a lot of major changes being proposed, some of which will probably turn out good while others will fail. That's likely to make a lot of people nervous.

Agreed.

Those are not "classic themes", the only people who think those are the classic GOP themes are those liberals who would never vote GOP anyway.

Having a Black Man as President really has the Republicans running scared.

More likely the health care lobby and energy lobby

Ah the race card. One of many cards communists use to gain power by playing it against their opponents.

Next the you'll probably pull out the class warfare card if the race card fails to derail the topic at hand.
