The front-runner is Hal Rogers (R-Kentucky), a 16-term Congressmen who known for funneling taxpayer money for pet projects in his district – and far beyond. Roger’s has brought so much federal money to his hometown (Somerset, Kentucky; population 11,000) that it is known as Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. There’s a $52 million National Center for Hometown Security. The tiny airport that received $17 million in federal dollars but has so little traffic that the last commercial airline pulled out in February. And then there’s the Hal Rogers Parkway, which was formerly known as the Daniel Boone Parkway before being renaming for Kentucky’s Prince of Pork.

Most recently, Rogers pushed through a $5 million dollar measure this year for conservation groups that work with endangered wild cats. It just so happens that one of the few groups eligible is the Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund. Who works for them? The Congressman’s daughter.

Over the past two years, Rogers has pushed through 135 earmarks at a cost of $246 million.

Yeah, they are serious about earmarks all right :)

Yeah, he's "boosting the economy." :\

Haha, exactly! I notice a lot of that is on infrastructure spending...so senseamp should have like zero problem with it I'd think, Right?

Heck, endangered animals? What could be more liberal tree hugger than that?!?!

Oh the ironing......

Well, I'm not happy to see some "Prince of Pork" in charge of the pork committee.

But to some extent Boehner et al are stuck with the senority rules. I understand why they exist, but I do not like them. I think the longer you're in Washington the more corrupt you're likely to become. I.e., the more corrupt get more power under the senority rules.

Having said that, I think the rules surrounding passage of pork are far more important than who leads the committee. Hopefully, we'll get some rules requiring transparency and disclosure; not to mention some self-discipline.

x2, heck, xInfinity.

I still laugh at another poster - not in this thread (for now at least) - telling me a year back or so, after I listed a bunch of major issues Congress needed to tackle 10-15 years ago that still hadn't been dealt with then (and still aren't now), that <paraphrasing> 'Congress can work on more than one thing at a time'.

It seems the only thing Congress can be expected to effectively multitask on is, spending money we don't have, and wasting time on less important things instead of locking down and solving the more important things.

There is only one true way this will change, and it's going to be so painful it's going to essentially be a reset by the US, and given how interconnected we all are globally now, likely the world.

In 20 years or so, we're going to be living in really interesting times here in the US, really interesting....

Yeah, you'll get self-discipline from GOP, any day now. :D

What's the point of this thread? You're calling this guy out for doing the same things your liberal masters do/want to do?

You're letting everyone know a politician is bringing home the pork as much as he/she can get away with?

Wow!!!!!!!

None of that is a surprise...next Socialist234 will be in here telling us we're all idiots, we're wrong 95% of the time, and then Moonfart will pop in and say we hate ourselves because we're not failures and expect others to not be as well.

We need new P&N characters, the old ones are getting stale (but are still good for a laugh). AzN...where is that guy, he brought the lulz??? Macro...haven't seen him around in a while, he must be compiling new macro lists for O'Bummer or something...

Maybe a WTB: New Loony Lefty thread could be started here, to see if we could get any takers......:hmm:

Hypocrisy. My "liberal masters" are not the ones railing about "porkulus."

You are a politicians wet dream, a blind ...partisan ...hack.

You are the one too blind to see through Republican lies. They are the same Republicans that ran this country into the ground when they had their chance.

But why would that matter to you? This guy is doing exactly what you want, is he not? Large infrastructure projects, spending lots of Fed money, etc. etc.

Shouldn't you be holding this guy up as a beacon of an "acceptable Republican"?

You're forgetting the repub mantra..."it's only wrong when you (dems) do it or are accused of it...

We (repubs) are only doing what you did, so it's ok, even if we're supposed to be against it. Please remember before posting any " conservative hypocrisy-theories". :D

Edit: Left out,
"We The People"
(insert deflection here)
"Sour Grapes" since you lost the elections
Etc,.

Given the current state of Congress in the US, the only acceptable state of politician to me is dead. When they've delayed and screwed up the necessary decisions long enough, maybe another 20 years, things here will have hit enough critical mass where that will start happening.

The question is not to me though, it's to you, since you're the starter of the thread, and it's clearly the type of spending you and your masters are in favor of.

Is not this an "acceptable Republican" to you, at least in spending habits?

Surely your answer will be Yes.....

Sounds like you teabaggers are in for a porking courtesy of your beloved GOP. If you can't fight it might as well enjoy it. :D

Thank you for proving, time and time again, that you are indeed a partisan hack.

Partisan hacks are those like you, who claim to be for small government, but are first in line to apologize for GOP porkers.

Curious you'd refer to the "porking" in such a negative light. This is what you and your masters want, are you not happy?
