This is what I say on most issues:

If you want to be charitable and caring of others, then go out and be charitable and caring of others. Don't sit on your lazy ass waiting for the government to be charitable and caring with other people's resources on your behalf.

How did we ever manage to survive as a people for all these years without the everlasting love that only our Government can provide?

We didnt. Country started with socialism taking from rich Indians, back then we just shot the rich, and redistributing it for free to impoverished masses of Europe. TVA various RR acts probably your schooling and much much more socialism. Investment in people is a good thing so long as they are willing to invest in themselves IMO. Not much of a fan of welfare though...needs to be called workfare and do something productive.

Serious answer to a troll thread:

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.'"

2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NIV)

Then there's the whole philosophy of welfare. To a Christian Conservative, government welfare does more harm to people than good. We are commanded to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31). That means we should try to help other people out as we'd like to be helped.

I, for one, do not want to become dependent on the state to pay for me to live. That's unfair to others and it demeans me. Plus, it makes me rely on the government for my well being rather than God.

In all honesty, do you think that the Federal government is actually helping people on welfare or do you think that it's in the best interest of elected officials to have a large number of people totally dependent on him/her to live? Hey, if you don't re-elect me, the "other" guy's going to take away your government entitlement. Talk about job security! That's what our current welfare system is: a way to get as many people dependent on the government to provide their needs.

We've been fighting the "War on poverty" in this country for 50 years (80 if you count the New Deal). To quote Dr. Phil, "How's that working out for ya?" We've spent trillions of dollars trying to eliminate poverty in our country, yet, strangely, it still exists. Huh...apparently throwing money at the problem doesn't fix it. Whodathunkit?

I'm not saying don't help the poor. As a Christian, I know that I am commanded to help the needy. As a Conservative, I know that the best way to do that is not through the corrupt, inefficient Federal government.

Also, in this country, there's a big difference between the "needy" and the "wanty"...

Weak. Jesus fed thousands at least twice whose only Work was to listen to Jesus. Assuming the tale(s) can be believed anyway.

How many of these dumb "I'm butthurt because the public voted in a way I don't like" threads do we need?

This thread has nothing to do with the elections. I seriously want to know the thinking of Christian Republicans here and if they feel Jesus would follow the same logic they do when it comes to dealing with their fellow man.

First thanks for the serious response. I don't think people should stay on welfare. I think we should have a method of transitioning people from welfare to work. I could even support kicking people off of welfare altogether after a certain amount of time. Where that gets complicated is dealing with minor children (assuming you care about the kids welfare). I thought that is what Clinton did but seemingly people are able to continue to stay on it. Did something change in the welfare program after Clinton left office? Having said all that, I am not sure if Jesus would kick somebody off welfare if they didn't eventually get a job.

If you had a real (non trolling) question, you could have posted it under your real account instead of creating a new one. It's also clear from your first post that you already have an 'answer' and are just looking to make an argument. Either that, or you have a homework assignment and need input.

Do you have some kind of problem (mind you I am not saying what I really want to say)? This is the same account that I have been using since 2004. Please don't post in my thread unless you have something constructive to add.

For those that consider yourselves Christian, I really am interested in hearing your biblical support for the GOP's positions on things like:

Healthcare
Welfare
War
Minimum wage
Taxes

and any other issues you would like to present.
I'm not a conservative or a real christian anymore, but I'll try.

healthcare - The bible said something about reaping what you sew. Basically you're supposed to plan ahead, and people who don't plan ahead should go fuck themselves. If you take care of yourself and save money to pay for insurance, you should be rewarded. If you crash your motorcycle when driving 100mph, you probably deserve to die. Ultimately god decides your fate. Sometimes people survive the most amazing events, and sometimes people die for the silliest reasons, and it's because that's what those people had coming to them.

welfare - Blessed are the poor. Being poor brings people closer to god. This is actually true because there really is a strong correlation between poverty and believing in god. First world nations tend to have much weaker beliefs, and Scandanavian countries are often called atheist countries (only the conservatives call them that).

war - God kills people all the time. The bible explicitly talks about holy wars and killing entire races and nations. The entire middle east should be turned into a glass parking lot because those people follow a false prophet who just happened to be a pedophile.

minimum wage - Being poor is ok.

taxes - You're forcibly taking money away from people to pay for things they might not agree with. It might fund things like abortions, immoral wars, execution of innocent people, etc. Taxes are not very Christian.

This whole two party system sickens me. why can't we have a true third party? what are both dems and reps so fucking afraid of? losing their power? fucking politicians.

I would like to see evidence its the GOP or Dem's fault that a third party isnt being elected into federal office. Last time I checked, we could vote for whoever we wanted. Just because a politcal candidate outspends a third party candidate in a campaign 4:1 certainly doesnt change the fact its still up to voters to get someone into office.

welfare- Ok if being poor is good, why don't the well off Christian Repubs gift all their money away? Again any quotes from Jesus on this? I know the whole 'easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle' but are there others?

Taxes- Again are there any quotes from Jesus on not paying taxes?

War- I know there was alot of killing in the Old Testament, but again any quotes from Jesus on this?

Reap what you sow, is about Karma(not a Christian concept, but fits in this situation). IOW, you Sow Evil, you will Reap Evil. Has nothing to do with "Planning ahead".

Taxes: "Pay unto Caesar what is Caesars'". Pretty clear that Taxes are just fine with Jesus. No where does he Endorse or Condemn them, he just says to Pay them.

Even in the Old Testament there is nothing regarding the issue, except for the command to pay a 10% Tax they called a Tithe. Which is somewhat misleading since Meat from Animal Sacrifices also went towards the Officially endorsed Theocratic Governors, the High Priests of Israel.

Considering the fact that the various Christian churches are some of the biggest and most beneficial charities on earth, I doubt you could call them "self serving."

I have no belief in any theology either, but to call someone who disagrees that the government is the ONLY form of charity "self serving" is rather myopic.

I meant Republicans not churches or Christians in general. I don't have any problem with Christianity, so long as it's kept out of the insane zone (see Westboro Baptist Church).

This made me lol.

"I don't want to rely on the government for my well being. I want to rely on a mystical, invisible man to take care of me instead."

You're still shirking responsibility for yourself simply onto a different crutch -- some use government assistance as a crutch, some use "god."

Which is funny, because we all rely on the government whether we know it or not, we're all products of the state, the rich, middle class, poor, etc. Also what was the original form of government again? Oh right, Religion.

Not to mention if "you reap what you sow" applies to healthcare then I don't want to hear him bitching when someone swerves over the center line and hits his car head on at 70mph and he requires upwards of $1,000,000 in hospital bills, physical therapy, etc. His employer then lays him off to save the expenses and he is left without any means to provide for himself, let alone carry health insurance.

"Should have planned ahead and had $1,000,000 sitting in the bank! You reap what you sow!"

Didn't Jesus tell a story about a fool building his house on sand? The idea is that you should think of the future, and do not bet against the odds. When you know you'll eventually get old and will eventually get sick, don't bitch when your shaky sand house of "I don't need medical insurance" fails and you die alone on the street :p

Problem with that thinking is that for many people it's not "I don't need medical insurance" but instead "I've been denied medical insurance coverage" or "I can't afford medical insurance" or "My medical insurance denied my claim". Fixing a broken system based on greed isn't a bad thing. Hell, the GOP supported a very similar health care proposal with their contract with america.
