GOP is Filibustering Hagel nomination

Using the filibuster to protect the country from the idiots in the white house is not "abuse", it's using a procedural tool to do what is needed.

Would be kind of amazing if they do the first fillibuster in history, especially given that Hagel is a former Republican senator.

If they can't even confirm one of their own members, who would they confirm ?

No seriously. Are we at a point where they're filibustering without a reason? Why can't I find a reason?

They explain it as if they're not filibustering but simply want a 60 vote threshold instead of 51. I don't understand this at all though. To get confirmed he needs to get a vote on the floor and that's going to be a majority vote decision.

Why is he not fit for the job?

I'm going to hold you guys to this. Just making blanket statements is not going to cut it. This reminds me all to much of the Bush years where people would just say "Well Bush is a Monkey" or "Bush is stupid" without actually discussing the issue.

Just making blanket statements is not going to cut it.

Why not? It's always worked for them before. At least, works well enough for them.

Of course, if the Dems had tried this on a Republican secdef nominee, the GOP would be getting out the tar and feathers for the "traitors" who were "endangering national security".

While the blame falls mainly upon the GOP for continuing their efforts to sabotage the USA, I hold a special contempt for weak-kneed Harry Reid, who after blustering for a year plus about cracking down and no more handshake deals with the GOP on filibuster reform, and despite very strong support with the Senatorial Democrats to do such reform, Reid managed to cave in again this spring.

What we have is a despotic minority taking advantage of weak Senatorial leadership, all to the deteriment of this country. Polticians frequently say God Save The USA-the real question is can God save us from ourselves?

BTW PokerGuy, you are hopelessly misguided. Exactly what factual evidence do you have that Hagel is an idiot (sic) appointment?

Ok why is this an idiot appointment?

I didn't say this was an idiot appointment (I don't think Hagel is an idiot at all), I was commenting on the use of the filibuster in general.

I don't think Hagel is a bad guy, but there's a strong sense that obummer wants to put him in place so he can put a GOP face on the military cuts that need to be made (ie, blame the gop). Hagel also has a lot of questionable decisions in his past that have angered other senators. The delay is also a ploy to force the administration to provide requested information regarding their benghazi screwups.

The dems DID do this on Bush appointees. Convenient how you forget that.
