Google's "Inbox" thing

I'm not sure what to make of it. A mashup of email, Now, and Calendar? It sort of reminds me of Wave 2.0, except Now is a much better add-on to Gmail than IM was.

This definitely seems to confirm Ron Amadeo's theory that Google always needs to have two versions of everything going at once.

I've got the app installed and am waiting for an invite. Inbox looks awesome to me.

It took a few hours, but I got a response basically saying, "Thanks! We'll let you know." They must be slammed if took that long for a generic response to come out.

I got all excited and thought I might finally get in on one of these before they open it to everyone.

When you're dealing with basically a beta of a server-heavy service, you really need to limit adoption to make sure it doesn't crash and leave everybody with a bad first impression. It makes perfect sense for something like this.

Google is usually nice to me and I almost always got these things very early (GMail, Wave, etc.), but apparently not this time. Still waiting.

Just got it. It's... interesting. Still doesn't let me add my flight automatically to my calendar. Now you can see reminders, but those are only Google Now reminders. Keep reminders are still something different and Calendar is something totally different.

I feel like they need to tie reminders into the calendar somehow better. It just sounds like fragmentation--kinda like how Google+ Messenger, Gchat, and Voice once were (and still are to an extent)

Got my invite tonight. It's going to take me a couple of days to get a real feel for it and see if I truly like it or not. Email has not fundamentally changed in my lifetime so this breaking of the mold will take some getting used to.

It is for your @gmail.com accounts only, at least for now.
