What is the bloody point in Googles Find my phone if you have to authorise your log in on a device that isn’t your phone on your lost phone?
Like say you’ve just misplaced your phone in the house somewhere and you think "Ah Ha! I shall log into "Find my phone" on my laptop, well then you get stung by the two factor log in where you have to go get your lost phone to authorise the log in on your laptop!
What fucking idiot signed off on that?!
Also now I'm getting a billion security alerts from Google telling me that someone tried to sign into my account! Yeah me you bunch of incompetent wombles!

Luckily Samsungs version didn’t have this problem and my phone rang from down the side of the sofa!

Wasn’t really sure where to put this but as its a non technical rant with bad language I figured here was as good as anywhere!

I must admit that I've used my watch's find my phone feature several times. Way easier than what you described.

My related rant: I recently did a multi-day backpack with a car shuttle (left one car at both ends). We wanted to check into a hotel right away after getting to the trail-end car. The hotel has no staff on site and wouldn't give me check-in information until 24 hours before check-in time. No problem, I'll have my phone after the backpack and could get the emailed code. Except I left my phone hours (drive time) away in the trail-start car. No problem: just use my wife's phone to check my email. But I had to two-factor authenticate her phone using my email with the phone that I do not have.

Moral: set the access up on a different device now before you need it.

Check this out...

I can't vouch for it. I don't really lose my phone, except for around the house, and I have another I can call it with, but fuck google. I'd rather a lose a phone than use their services.
They do this with a non Google OS!

If I hadn't upgraded recently I'd be tempted!

SDCard and easily replaceable battery. Stock Android or their /e/OS (which I know little about).

Don't think that they work well in NA though hopefully they'll get support there soon.

I have an interest in fairphone, but like you said, it barely exists in NA. As things stand, I don't think I'll be getting a new phone for quite awhile. With google's new games, it looks like I'll be using my current phones til they quit running. Just use out of date software. I'm hoping some government slaps those fuckers down. I'm sure it won't be my government. I moved to the third world this year.
