I suppose Google is more afraid of a lawsuit than some developer is while in his mom's basement.

It seems Palm has been the only one to stand up to the patent.

i would think it was the other way around. google is a force to be reckoned with, even up against apples legal team. i doubt they are afraid of a law suit for anything, let alone a flimsy patent on a pinch zoom process.

im thinking at the time of development, they didnt see the feature as a "must have" and decided they could live without it. now, they are seeing the geek squads up in arms about not having it so they are putting any real statement off until they go back and figure out how easily their system can be modified to allow it easily.

one doesnt just slap in multitouch feature to a finished OS
