GoogleGear is a joke.

So my girlfriend bought me a D-Link DI-604 4-port router for my birthday. I get it, open it, and plug it in. It runs fine except for the fact it disconnects the LAN side on both of my machines at random times. The only way to fix it is a reset of the router.

I call D-Link and they haven't a clue what the problem was. I had the latest firmware, my WAN side is still up, there were no known issues, and they had never had a similar problem. Their conclusion is that either (a) the router is defective or (b) it's incompatible with my network (I've never heard such BS in my life). They tell me to return the router and get another router altogether. This is when the real fun begins...

I contact GoogleGear and they demand on me paying the 15% restocking fee in addition to paying to ship the product back to them. Does anyone else find the fact that they are trying to charge me for a defective product? It's defective, they're not restocking it, they'll send it straight to D-Link and get their money back for it. The fee is only $7 (cheap router) but it's just the principal. I too have to pay shipping back to GoogleGear. So now I'm out $12, and I have no router.

I've always sworn by GoogleGear and have bought many products from them (and recommend them to people who have also bought many things), but this is truly ridiculous. I will never be ordering from them again and I recommend you do the same if you care about Customer Service in the least.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being stubborn but I don't understand why I should be forced to pay for a defective product. In the end I will be paying 1/4 of the price of the router and will get nothing from it.

Put it back in the box, send them a letter then send a copy of said letter to your credit card company and they'll reverse the charges, most likely.

that is rediculous(sp?). I would just send it back and get the replacement somewhere else.

It's my girlfriend's credit card and she doesn't want to go through the hassle.

Funny thing is, if they hadn't treated me so poorly I'd be buying a ~$100 router to replace this one.

Linksys..cheap and easy to use.

Man, what is the rational behind this? I can understand paying shipping back, but how in the world can they charge you 15% for an item that they are going to send back to D-Link and get full credit for?!?!?! Did you talk to a manager about this?

I've gone back and forth with them about 3 times now, I'm giving up and paying the fee. I recommend that if you ever return products when they are defective you not do business with GoogleGear.

I refuse to let them bully me around but unfortunately it's my GF's money/CC and she doesn't think it's worth the hassle. If people don't take a stand they're gonna continue pulling crap like this.

I had the same problem with the very same router. I took it back to Best Buy and swapped it for a Linksys that cost $30 more, but works perfectly....

i dont understand the restocking fee, since you aren't really returning it, rather exchanging for another.

the shipping fee is understandable. if you bought something at a local shop and it was broken somehow, you would have to drive back to exchange it. they dont pay you back the gas money for that trip right? similar situation here.

good luck!

Me either. Even with their support. Returned two things, never paid a restocking fee.

Though it is somewhat hard to find a tech that speaks understandable english, and I think that is one of their weaknesses. People can get easily frustrated if they can't easily understand what the support tech is saying.

I too had never had a problem with them. In fact, I swore by them.

Things change, I will never be doing business with them again. I suggest you do the same unless you like hassles.

I had the same experience with NeutronUSA. I'll never buy from them again.

It's only Newegg and Mwave for me. Mwave was awesome for a friend of mine. Took back a bad MB no questions asked after 3mos.

I never had a problem with the DI-604. After I flashed the firmware to the latest version it worked fine (now I'm using a Linksys wireless though).
