well, yahoo is probably one of the most well known internet sites out there. When people talk about Google all the time they (they being new/novice internet users) might try to go to google.yahoo.com or something.

I know my parents would always try to search for things by typing "whateversearch.com" in the toolbar. I told them to go to Yahoo once for a search and then they started typing whatever.yahoo.com

Just a thought...

Btw, there was a great article in wired magazine (Im looking for an internet version) about google having all the power in the world. Literally they can sway entire political thought by bringing certain pages to the top.
