The hell?

I'm with OP here. I just noticed this today. One moment I'm looking at Android market, the next that's gone and I see "Google Play" in my apps.

Guys I love Google, but I want them to be the young, innocent tech darling, not the mainstream.

I feel conflicted :(

My replacement Optimus LTE comes monday.

I thought it was just a change of name/logo and front page of market (mostly being the same)

We kinda whine about a lot, don't we?

Yes we do, all it is is a name change. Google is just trying to show that you can get Books, Movies, Apps and Music for your PC as well as for Android. Games will most likely be the next step.

Google hasn't been the young innocent tech darling for at least 4 years.

Seems like they're trying to bring it all under one umbrella (very itunes-esque?)

Yep. The Android Market name implies that everything you buy was made and can only be run under android os. The general public would assume this and that would not be good for Google.

So Google just renamed the market to something more general.
