of the millions (possibly billions) of people that use google and could use the web accelerator, how many do you think are qualified to run a setup like that? what's more, how many people are idiotic enough to spend the time and money on that when the alternative is a FREE 30 second download!??!?!?!!?

it takes liek 20 min to setup and most people who post here are big nerds and many of them know enough linux to do it, and most also have a truckload of spare comp parts, all you need is like a p2 and a small HDD for that

why you ask? because some people like their privacy

and unlike googles dealie it also does DNS cashing and other things which are more benneficial then web casheing

For all the kudos they get for being a revolutionary company, most of Google's major services haven't been revolutionary, merely evolutionary.

The search engine was around long before they showed up. Desktop search already existed. Same with local search, mapping utilities, web-based mail, etc. When you step back and look at it, they've rarely done anything 'new.' They've just done some of these things 'better' than others before them. And even then, some of it's arguably not any better than the offerings from others; they just get a lot of kudos and attention because they're Google.

The only truly unique service I can think of that they came up with was, ironically enough, content-based advertising. ;)

They should just make their own web browser... then their own operating system...

I ran it for 2 days and didn't notice much improvement at all. Uninstalled it.
