Believe the key is the "remember settings" option, which doesn't exist on Android -- it's a per-trip thing.

To create more meat for discussion: this reinforces the idea that Google frequently treats iOS users better than their Android counterparts. Features sometimes show up on iOS first, or are better implemented there. I don't think it's intentional, just a virtue of iOS having both fewer hardware targets and a technically superior development environment. It's easier to finish and deploy updates as a general rule.

I mean, I totally get it. But, if I wanted to explain it to my friend, what would I tell them we're looking at here?

It was a huge wakeup call to me when I got an iPhone this year how much better some of the Google Apps are on iOS:

-Hangouts is miles better, iOS had IP calling MONTHS before Android and the iOS version crashes less

-Chrome on iOS is better in a lot of ways, has handy gestures Android lacks.

-Google Maps is much much much more responsive, like crazy better

-Google Photos and backup seems to work smoother

-The Google Voice app on Android is ancient, but new and nice on iOS

And there are probably more. To me it makes it clear that iOS has better development tools, and that Google likes different teams competing with each other

So I'm contemplating going back to Android as soon as Apple announces the headphone jack debacle is real. And then I read this and remember that apps just aren't as good. There is no winning in this war, just accepting the least annoying compromise.

You pick the phone with the least number of compromises for you. At the minute, that's an iPhone SE for me.
