1. correct

2. whatever txt plan you have (or lack) with your current phone company will apply. doing things from the gv web interface will be free (sending / receiving txt without them being forwarded to your phone). going from your phone -> gv -> your contact's cell; or your contact's cell -> gv -> forward to your phone will count against your txt plan. (you can disable gv from forwarding messages to your phone in gv preferences).

Yeah, it would be nice if, in the web interface, GV could just create and show you the 406 mappings right away, so you didn't have to go through the bother of txting them first.

Regardless, until your post, I didn't realize you could call those 406 numbers too. I knew about txting, but didn't consider calling. Now it just seem obvious. I can't believe it didn't dawn on me before.

I couldn't agree more with google showing you that 406 # right up front! :)

Indeed a nice feature.

Would be even more nice if I wasn't used mins/charged for using my mobile sending to the 406 #. Like a way to incorporate or even replace my current # with google voice #. All in all, not bad so far...

In Gmail you may creat an email with the 'From:' field showing one of your external email accounts.

Is this possible to do with Google Voice when sending an SMS? Can I send an SMS and make it look like it's from my mobile number?

So I was researching how I could use Google Voice with a data plan only but no voice. SMS's are easy - simply setup google voice to send an email to your gmail account when you get an SMS (not your phone, that would be considered a text to your carrier). You can reply via email, and GV will send your response back as an SMS.

Calls are a little tougher, incoming calls are no problem, but it would look like you have to use a combination of Gizmo, GV and Gizmo's app GUAVA (GoogleVoice UNAUTHORIZED Android Voice Application) for outgoing. The only issue I have with this is that you have to give gizmo all of your google account info and that's a little freaky since it's all connected (checkout, mail etc.)

Anyone get GV to work on just data? Or try the GUAVA program?

Haven't used that GUAVA yet...That only works with certain phones I thought...

I'll have to try the above SMS with just email and not sending it to my phone. Maybe test it for just while I'm at work.
