I liked grand central better. Google is known for search but little else. They need different names to attract the hip crowd. No one's gonna find "Google Voice" an attractive name.

Welcome to the last 5 years. Google is now known for a lot more than just search. Google is also now known for putting their name at the beginning of their product names.

Looks like they removed the ability to change your ringback? You could do it in Grand Central, but Google Voice doesn't have it.

Also, can you get SMS messages emailed to you instead of forwarded to a cell phone? I haven't seen that option, either.

The one service they acquired that was already ginormous when they bought it.

It looks like you can still use the GC link to manage your account even after you migrate.

Yea, you can, but the features don't carry over - particularly the ringback. I liked using the British ring to confuse people calling me.

Almost May.... Where the hell is Google Voice?

They said it would be open to the public in a matter of weeks?

How are you Grand Central users enjoying Google Voice?

Sweet how much will you save now and how much was it before Google Voice?

I am thinking of getting a cheap cell when Gvoice comes out.

Google is taking in more requests for testing Gvoice. So if you signed up to be notified when Gvoice is out. Check your e-mail.

Might get lucky.

I got mine. It's pretty cool. As far as invites go: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...erthread=y&STARTPAGE=3

Also Google doesn't really know how to make $$$ off of this? Rumor is something about audio ads? I doubt Google will do anything to ruin this service?

Text ads would be good when you goto google.com/voice and log in. Like Gmail.

Well see what they plan to do. The call widget is really cool. You throw it on like your MySpace page which you shouldn't do unless friends only and people click it and enter there # and select to make there number private or not and it rings them and then calls you, thus not giving your # out. Doesn't cost them long distance if they are aways from ya. So pretty cool.

Just last week I setup an Asterisk server that works with my GoogleVoice number and a free SIP number from SipGate. My WiFi phone arrives this week, but it works pretty swell with X-lite right now. Basically, people can call into my GoogleVoice number which i've forwarded to my SIP number, and it passes thru the caller ID, ringing on my PC in X-lite. I call out thru GoogleVoice, too. The only quirky thing is that I have to place the call to GoogleVoice, and then GV rings me back while ringing my 2nd party, too.

There was a great walkthrough outlined on slickdeals a little while ago that I followed to set it up. Searching "asterisk" over there should turn up the thread.
