Area code 403 (Alberta, Canada) is so far the only non-US area code that google voice will let you forward to. I guess google just missed it.
 
I just wish I could get calls coming direct to my actual cell number to filter through them first so I could send specific numbers to specific other locations or voicemail.

If I could do that I'd use it much more than I do now.

You can choose what number to forward to (or disable forwarding for SMS) in settings.
 
I got it setup and changed all the quick-dial keys on my phone to use GV#+pause+2+desired#. Takes a bit longer, but works well.

The GV number you get when texting someone seems to be a permanent map for people in your GV contact list. So you can go ahead and program that in to their contact info on your phone.

I'm not going start an actual transition for a while though...all depends on how well the service does.
 
too bad apple pulled both gv apps and even blocked google's official app. however, GV mobile is now up on cydia. it works well on the iphone. i just wish google would email me where there is a new sms, like it does with voicemail...

Go to Settings -> Phones. Find your cell phone, click Edit. You'll see an option for sending SMS to that phone. Uncheck and click Save. Fina!
