If I am using a Blackberry with GV, do I need to get a text plan through Verizon when I'll be sending my SMS through GV? Or does Verizon charge for the luxury of sending SMS regardless of where it is coming from?

If you send SMS with GV, you do not get charged. You also will not get charged for receiving SMS on GV, as long as you tell it not to forward the SMS to your phone.

If someone who is on Verizon sends me an SMS on GV, do they get charged for an out of network SMS? I know Verizon has unlimited "IN" texting.

verizon only has unlimited in texting if you pay for the $10 texting plan

and they do get charged for sending an out of network SMS

To be clear, you're not charged if you use the web interface. If you use your phone to send SMS via GV's mapped number, it will be counted by Verizon. SMS from GV#s are all "out" of network.

GV basically permanently maps a unique number between you and the person you're texting. That way you can just add that mapping number to that contact. I think they're all 406 area codes, which is Montana.
