Anybody know a good way to use google voice in place of a landline? I really dont want to go the option of a pots line or pay for something from comcast. I recall a post made by somebody here recommending 2 products called asterisk and pbx in a flash...

Basically, I don't mind setting up a small server/desktop to run this...a VM would be even better. I want to make/receive calls from a google voice account i recently signed up for and have all the phone ports in my apartment able to use this. Thanks...

Asterisk (which is the core of PBX in a Flash) has a relatively recent channel driver for Google Voice. Peoples' experience with it is rather mixed, and I personally wouldn't use it. You could run it in a VM, but you would need to invest either in an analog telephony adapter or a SIP hard phone...or you could use a softphone on your computer, in which case, why not just use the google voice client?

If you already run a 24/7 Server, Magic Jack is very very inexpensive.
