Google syncs browser settings across PCs *FREE*

thanks OP
i been using bookmark synchronizer, its a bit buggy at times, but gets the job done, i didn't likle how the original developer just decided to stop developing, but there has been nothing like it and some other developers picked the project up, finally i may have it replaced.

edit: installed, but keeps erroring on me after i gave my PIN. oh well.. will try again tomorrw

storing even more private stuff on google's servers. awesome.

It amazes me how much info people want to give google, while at the same time blocking their doubleclick cookies for privacy reasons. 😀

mozbackup does the same thing "off the grid." It's been discontinued but you can still find it and it still works (with firefox).

Mozbackup absolutely doesn't do the same thing because exactly as you say it's "off the grid". Google Browser Sync is completely automated and syncronizes each time you start the browser. With mozbackup all you are doing is backing up a profile to a zip file that you need to manually install on another computer. That being said, I still woundn't use Google snyc.

I've been using GoogleSync for the past few days and have to say I'm impressed. Setup took awhile as there were many conflicts between my computers, but after fixing it, everything went smoothly.

You have the option to send your bookmarks, as well as you cookies, your passwords, your history, and tabs/windows. You also have the ability to encrypt anything you want. But given that, it's still not clear from the TOS if Google has the key to decrypt your files.

I've only been synching my bookmarks (with encryption enabled) as there's really nothing personal and if it does get hacked and broken into, all they would know is what sites I visit.

I posted this on /. a few days ago:

I mean many solutions to this have already existed:

I didn't see anything in the TOS either but, this is from the FAQ for whatever that's worth.

What's the point of encrypting my information?

By encrypting your information, it will be transmitted to and stored on Google's servers in a format that is nearly impossible to interpret without the PIN. That means that without the PIN, no one, not even Google, will be able to read your data

ok, tried to install it but I got a prompt "Software installation is disable....", where can I find the settings in the option menu to enable it?

edit:Found a way to do it, Ver 1.5 Software install is not on the menu, have to do am "edit:config"
