They just want to be able to hide the fact that they are redirecting people onto Google-owned content behind the scenes as much as they can. After all, what people don't know can't affect Google's ad revenue.

Of course, the average user probably won't care as long as they can use it to get to their Facebook page... Lemmings, all of them.
