They just want to be able to hide the fact that they are redirecting people onto Google-owned content behind the scenes as much as they can. After all, what people don't know can't affect Google's ad revenue.

Of course, the average user probably won't care as long as they can use it to get to their Facebook page... Lemmings, all of them.

Dang, I could have sworn firefox had this option in Menu - Options. It looks like you have to dig into the about:config and change browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-show-the-full-url-in-firefox/

This is as big of a sin as Windows not showing file extensions and full file paths by default.
