google play review filtering for apps - Awesome!

you can now sort by "most helpful" or "most recent" and, more importantly, you can filter by users using the current version of the app, as well as users with the same phone as you.

very helpful!

User reviews are, for the most part, useless.

They are useful for trends but beyond that I agree. Obviously, if there are 30 people in a row complaining about an issue, it's an issue.

Yeah that's what I look for. To see if there are any obvious issues with an app.

I find that a lot of the reviews are user error or complaints about something the app can't control - provider/phone issues.

One example is when I looked at the Xfinity video streaming app, many people were complaining about video "pausing" occasionally which obviously is the result of slow network connections. Not really something you can fault the app for.

I disagree. It's pretty easy to tell which reviewers have no idea what they're talking about and which ones do. User reviews can help point out common problems or annoyances and can suggest workarounds. And of course when you have a huge number of people giving negative reviews, that can be useful too (more than just a single bad review).

I 100% disagree.
I always check reviews by same "phone" type for all apps. It helps to know what works on my phone and what doesn't before paying for it.
15 minutes app window is not enough, especially when there's no free or demo version of that app.
