Google Play Music battery drain?

Anyone else notice that even if you have Google Play Music set to only play music stored locally on the phone that it uses way more battery(and the phone gets much warmer) than the old school music apps that phones used to come with? Anyone have a solution?

No, I only use PowerAmp for music playing. Everything else is so DOS Ver. 3.0.

I'm going to keep using it, it's awesome otherwise. I'm asking if there's some setting I'm missing or if there's info that could shed some light on the issue.
