Google picasa, whats the catch?

don't think so, my firewall has never detected out going data attempts from it. Dunno how/why it's free, but it rocks so I don't question it :)

Yea there are several photo companies doing this type of thing (yahoo just purchased flicr.com).

I think the idea for now is they just want to get everyone using all of their products and get you trusting their company name with all of your computing needs so you will purchase other paid products that the release in the future. Just a guess.

There is a great article in fortune (pretty sure) about google vs microsoft. It talks about how google is hiring mass programers for software, and even mentions rumors about a office type suite from google.

I have been using Picasa since it came free with my Canon S45. I was happy to see Yahoo buy it, since all updates are now free.
Great product, no catches. Heck even my 12 year old can use it. Picasa 2 was a good upgrade from 1. I look forward to more improvements.
