Another annoying thing about Picasa is that it leaves a hidden .inf file in each folder it finds pictures in. Took me a while to delete those after uninstalling. Lame.

just like windows xp (by default) puts Thumbs.db in anything that has image/video.

program looks nice from the preview flash. but i wanna ask, how fast does it load/change pictures? like acdsee and windows image preview, it loads pictures like *snap* *snap* *snap*. is it the same in this case?

Thanks, free is always very good, unless it is junk software that screws up my machine, I have a friend who uses it and likes it.

Adobe PhotoAlbum Starter Edition is more of a demo or trial product than it is anything useful. You'll find a lot of the commands/options are links to buy the full version. For free with a timeline function Picassa is great, but if you can afford the full version of Adobe PhotoAlbum, I'd go for Adobe.

I don't really care for irfanview either (remind me too much of Windows 3.1), but xnview is what I use, and I like it.

I will just stick with what I have always used, irfanview. I was about to download this thing a week ago but I decided not to. Then my computer totally screwed up.

I suggest skipping it. Deleting those hidden files after the uninstall was a pain. :)

FWIW, I have and use Photoshop Album 2, Irfanview, Compupic and Iphoto on my Macs and I like Picasa better than all of them.

wow!

This program is awesome.

It does everything I need, and it looks *really* slick. It also has one of the best UI's that I have seen for an image organizer...so easy that my mom can use it. I really want to try out that 'Hello' picture-im program that is made to work with it.

It'd be nice if this software could do the creation things that Adobe Photoshop Album can do, like Web Photo Galleries, calendars, slideshows (VCD & PDF).

Seems like with all these options I always end up simply manipulating files with Windows Explorer and uploading to Shutterfly for other people to see. The Hello software was cool, but I don't know how much value it really has for me. Maybe I'm wearing blinders or something.

Exchange with their tech support:

Your question:

I installed Picasa using an admin account. When I try to run it from a user account, I get the splash screen and it dies. The splash disappears, and nothing happens. What is the correct means of multi-user setup under XP Pro?
---------------------------------------------------

Thank you for contacting Picasa Customer Support. Picasa will not run in a Windows
account that does not have administrator rights. There is currently no work around.

Thank you for your interest in Picasa.

Thanks for posting this.... That's pretty much a deal-breaker for me.
Anyone have any free/cheap alternatives that DO work in a multi-user restricted type of environment?
