Considering the horrible death of the luge athlete yesterday you'd think Google would have more class than to use an image of a luger on their front page logo. :\ It's like they're purposefully trying to get a good laugh about it.
 
clearly they planned on that being their image before this all happened. it's not like they did it on purpose.

they also used a murder scene in Google Street view. it was taken down though, and this should be too.

methinks Google is getting so huge that they can't effectively police themselves.

I agree, Google should completely ignore the fact that Luge event even exists, by filtering all search results for the words "luge, luging, luger, Georgia, and Nodar Kumaritashvili," and hiding the results. That'll show some respect for the guy!

It's the winter fucking Olympics! Who gives a shit that some guy died BEFORE the Olympics while practicing in regards to having some moratorium on anything to do with luge.

Now the Today Show playing the video this morning while kids would be up to see it with no clear disclaimer that you're about to watch a guy die, that is fucked up.

Hard to do as most flashers don't support cross flashing unless a CLI ignore switch is specified. In that case I would (hope) the operator knows better.

Tripping over a power cord while "programming rom" is displayed will make one sad though. :biggrin:
 
I'm sure their logo themes are planned well in advance and long before the tragic accident yesterday. That said, I agree, they should change it.
 
Actually, the criticism may be deserved, 1 person manages the Google home page banner, and she must have screwed up. I'd bet $ it'll be changed in a few hours.

It is in poor taste, but unintentional.
