Saw one at best buy today and am somewhat underwhelmed by the size of it. I was hoping it would be more in line with say an EVO.. I know it wouldn't be quite as big but could be bigger...

The Nexus S has a 4" screen - its essentially a rebranded Galaxy S, it has essentially the same 4" SAMOLED screen all the Galaxy S phones have.

Personally, I think its just about the sweet spot for screen size, I consider 4.3" a little too big.

I guess it would help if I had it next to an EVO.

I'm coming from a touch pro, so anything is an upgrade...

Based on what we know, get this or wait for evo 3d?

I'm gonna check it out when I can see it in person..

The specs on the Evo 3D are a lot better. It has a higher-resolution screen, double the RAM, and a dual-core processor.

The Nexus S is a damn good phone, but personally I'd wait for the Evo 3D. You don't want to get stuck with a 2-year contract unless you know it's the phone you REALLY want.

The phone is really good. With official support from Google and a large number of developers churning out great roms for it, you can't go wrong.
I have one and it's buttery smooth. Probably the best phone I've used yet.

Single best reason to go with the Nexus S instead of any flavor of Evo (or any other non-Nexus phone for that matter) is the software. All this touchwiz/sense/motoblur/etc bs really slows down the OS. Plus, the SAMOLED screen is still the best one I've seen yet.

I am much happier with my fascinate after installing a ROM that doesn't have TW.

Well I think Sense is the best and if you've checked out some videos of the Evo 3D, Sense makes it buttery smooth in practically all occasions. I prefer stock but if I had to choose one of the skins it'd be Sense.

For the sake of argument, (and I do agree Sense is probably the best skin out there), couldn't it be that the horsepower of the 3D is really what makes it so smooth?

There have been other dual cores with similar power that still stuttered in the instances where the Evo 3D was super smooth.

but the launcher itself isn't 3D accelerated. Some UI animations are with 2.3, but not everything. so the best we can do is code a solid launcher like ADW or LauncherPro that's nearly buttery smooth.

So if the stock rom is so good, what is the advantage of custom roms?
