I hate giving up a micro SD slot. But a 7 inch 1280x800 IPS, Tegra 3 quad core, with vanilla Android and updated by Google, all for $200-250. I think I can live without the micro SD slot.
I think I could accept a no-slot 64 GB machine. 32 GB would really be pushing my tolerance. 16 GB would be a definite no sale.

Note though I'd be willing to pay $299 for a 64 GB machine.

I love the look! However, if this thing really is limited to just Google's apps, then that sucks and I'll have to wait for the community to free it. Also it currently says $299 on the page, that's about $200 too much...

This is awesome.
I will be getting the 32gb version as soon as pre-order is available.
Assuming the price is $199/$249.
If its $199/$299 I will settle for $199. I will never paid $100 for an extra 16gb.

Okay, so this is basically another attempt at Google TV, but with social syncing features and it costs $300?

No thanks. Like you said, needs to be $100 or less.

It comes in 8GB and 16GB for $199 and $249 respectively.

Since the Kindle Fire has 8GB and I rarely store (as oppose to stream) music on my devices, I think 8GB is fine. I have 32GB on my Galaxy Nexus and not much of it is music at all.

Yeah, I was just going to post this.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/27/google-nexus-7-25-dollar-credit/
The screen shows 8gb/16gb.
I read the link above from Engadget and it mentioned 16gb/32gb which was why I got excited.
Bummer. Paying another $50 for 8gb is retarded.
Nexus 7 specs

It's got micro USB. Is that just for syncing, or can you use it for external media as well? If the latter, that could be a substitute for SD. However, I'm not optimistic.

It's also got Bluetooth and NFC.

With their pricing a 64gb would only cost you $549

I pre-ordered the 16 GB model. I already have a 32GB 4g iPad but i figure this one is a little smaller and maybe I'd be more likely to carry it on planes and stuff for reading.

If I can use the same adaptor like on my Gnex for the microusb port to connect usb thumb drives, this will be awesome. I can carry my 32 GB thumb drive and shuffle stuff around.

Can you link me to this adapter please? I tried an el-cheapo one from China and it didn't work.

What file system are you using with that adapter?

Currently FAT32 on my 32GB flash drive.

Just tested it, put Cars 2 on my thumb drive, was playing the movie directly from the flash drive then copied it over to my galaxy nexus and played it from there as well.

That is the same one I bought...

It never worked for me with my (Verizon) Nexus. Maybe I didn't have my USB drive formatted properly?

Are you rooted? You have to have root and use an app such as Stick Mount in the Google Play store. For whatever reason this feature isn't enabled by default in ICS.

For me no sd slot no sale. I did notice that it had a usb slot but not sure if the device support host (btw the nexus does not which is why you can't mount a usb stick). Anyways for me i have videos on sd cards; but the infinity looks interesting.

Stick Mount and usb host cable is what I use as well. Works perfectly. You can also use NTFS drive but you have to use different app which is sort of flaky from what I read.

OK thx. That wouldn't work for me, rooted or not. Many of my files are over 4 GB.

Just an FYI, I formatted my thumb drive to NTFS and did the same thing with similar results.

I couldn't play the file from the thumb drive, however I was able to copy the file over to my phone and play it from there with no problems.

It looks like it's probably read-only access for NTFS.

Keep in mind i'm running custom rom (AOKP) and custom kernel (franco kernel) but this should at least show it's possible with the nexus 7 once developers get their hands on it. Might even be enabled by default in Jelly Bean.

Well, I'd be almost OK with read-only access, but read-only in the sense that it could read off the flash card and play it directly.

Yeah, NTFS support seems to be popular enough to be built into custom ROMs. However, (some?) Asus devices can do both NTFS and exFAT natively because they licenced the drivers from Tuxera.

BTW, I know NTFS support is not built into non-adulterated Ice Cream Sandwich, so my guess is that it's not built into non-adulterated Jelly Bean either, but who knows.

Here's hoping for an 8" Asus tablet with SD.
