I like Hangouts. Only problem is very few people I know actually use it often.

For group/team messaging, I like Slack (though I used to use HipChat and like it, as well).

Hangouts, does sms and the occasional voice call. I wanted to like messenger, but it felt incomplete. Made a call via hangouts and the quality was amazing.

Generic XMPP, but I don't use messaging much.
We have found a Google Talk user! ():)
Looks like OP needs to update his poll options to "Which if the five" and add Google Talk to the list of options.

I like Hangouts over Messenger because it does group messages.

Allo and Duo aren't available so unless people have been testing it?

I've obviously only used Hangouts and Messenger since Allo and Duo aren't available for public use yet. Of the two I've used I like Messenger better but it seems like Allo might be interesting. Looking forward to trying it out as my entire family are Android users.

Yeah... not sure why you're including the options that we aren't even released yet. Don't you think the results will be a little skewed?

I don't use google. The specific program I use is ChatSecure. People I communicate with may or may not be on google.

Yep, it can do this. It kind of takes Now on Tap a step further.

I'll bet that'll be a drain on battery life. I'm also curious if google is just going to archive all texts used on Allo like they do with anything you type or speak into google now. I'm still feeling a little uneasy knowing I can look up my google now history, and play back my voice recording of every single time I've ever said "ok google".

The thought of all of my texts going through the same system on a constant basis worries me. Which is odd, because I've always operated under the belief that only people who have something to hide want that privacy... and that anything you send across a network could be seen anyway so why worry? Still, hearing my voice when I didn't realize it was being stored forever was a little shocking.

Google really needs to consolidate their apps. They will never have a successful messaging platform when they don't focus on one. I love android but damn do I hate the whole messaging situation.

I suppose what client you use matters less than what underpinning tech your using.

SMS is SMS. It doesn't matter if you're using hangouts or or not, it'll still get to anyone with a cell signal.

Poll doesn't make sense. How can you prefer a video chat app instead of an SMS client? They aren't the same. Duo is unlike any of them, Messenger is just SMS, Hangouts is the most jack of all trades of the bunch, and Allo is the WhatsApp competitor that will showcase Google assistant.

Which is probably why its a separate app.

I use hangouts when I want to make a generic call over Wi-Fi which is maybe once a year at best. I have other apps for messaging that tie to specific numbers that I use.
