Google just turned me down

Flew to New York, spent 6 hours interviewing, thought I did awesome. No reason given.

Oh well. I continued to be gainfully employed at a neat little start-up company.

Still, ego bruised.

Enough people apply that even qualified folks will get dropped.

Think nothing of it and move on. It's just a job.

You must be extremely good at what you do and that's what got their attention, but you may not be exactly where they are looking for. Just move on, no harm done.

The fact that you got an interview with them is plenty to be proud about. 🙂
... and this

If you really want to know ask HR, or the person you were in contact with. Be nice and ask what your weakness was compared to the selection.

Many times they will tell you and it might be something you can improve on.

they call me up a couple times a year to ask if i'm still interested and to ask me to send in an updated resume...but never more than that..haha

If you thought you nailed the interview, you must be pretty bright. Their interviews are insane! DO not fret....you work for a small company, so you have more potential!

You are all fired.

I have a contact at HR there and a couple of friends (NYC office). I've entertained going there a few times over the years but never got the feeling there's much growth. Too many Type A personalities too.

Oh and to the OP. I interview 100s of developers a year. Sometimes it goes great but we don't hire the guy because one of the interviewers had a minor objection or another candidate was just a little more of a fit. Keep trying. If you have an HR contact at Google, ping them again in six months and ask if there are any new spots. The Google HR department seem really proactive at getting talent in, so unless you totally bombed out you probably have another shot somewhere else in the company.

I have a friend that got hired on a few years ago at a start-up company, he was employee #6 (the four founders then the fifth and then him) and got a stake in the company. As soon as they even try to sell the company or anything else he will have a very nice chunk of change. He is very good at what he does.

Interviewed with Amazon not once, but twice. Turned down both times. 🙁

2 more times and I join the likes of the Buffalo Bills in terms of epic failure.

Hey 3rd time could be the charm, I interviewed with a company 3 times, 3rd time worked 🙂

Send your resume to them again. This time, put "Now with 50% more hipster!!" at the top. You'll be in without an interview.
