Gotta read this article:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s...5/ap_on_hi_te/google_maps&sid=95573501

Online search engine leader Google has unveiled a new feature that will enable its users to zoom in on homes and businesses using satellite images, an advance that may raise privacy concerns as well as intensify the competitive pressures on its rivals.

Like the Terra map stuff is some brand new technology? How many other sites have been around for years that show the same outdated satellite photos of homes? I love it when people write articles about new technologies to try to get people to panic even when it's been around forever....

But to be honest, I never noticed the little "Satellite" link on the top right of maps.google.com before so it was nice to see it there...

i can't zoom in on my house. Apparently Canada isn't part of their "Zoom inable" range.

Chunks of Southern Ontario appear to zoomable to down to the 1 foot/pixel level, so are higher populated areas of Canada.

Terraserver had coverage for southern ontario for a while when they first came out, but then removed it after a few months.

It zooms in closer than the Microsoft maps do for a couple addresses I pulled up (and it's in color).

Some services have updated pics, some do not. Sooner or later the others will have these same images.

I think I can see my car! LOL

A couple years ago I looked up a place I had back in 1994. I looked at the date of the sat image, saw it was 1994 on an early Sunday morning when I would be home and then looked again at my normal parking space and there was my car!!!

a venture capital firm backed by the Central Intelligence Agency.

Does' anyone think this is strange?

As far as this tech, I'll never cut my trees again. oregon with it's cloud cover may be a good place to live..

very cool ... looks like my family still has some privacy. The sat. imaging cuts out when you get near my hometown.

my college can't be viewed, either.

funny ... i checked where i'm living now, and there's a little section of the map that doesn't have high res imaging .. and it's right at my apartment.

There's something that disturbs me more than this, even. My GF's sister lives in a podunk-y kinda town where yuppies buy houses with land so they can drive 45 minutes each way to work in Denver, and apparently there's someone that goes around in a helicopter taking pictures of the people's houses. Then they come to your door and offer to sell the pic to you.
