Probably a repost, but couldn't find it under "google" and i'm an addict and had not seen it so....
I do want you to please take a moment and check this out, carefully. If you
do not want this information available, you can remove it ( see below) . If
your phone directory uses only zip code, you are safe, information to the
directions to your home is secure.

If you go to www.google.com and type in your telephone number it will
actually pull up directions to your house. There is a way to have your
number removed. Please read below. Many people are unaware of this
danger.

Go to www.google.com then type in your phone number (separated by
hyphens, including area code) and click on Google Search. If your phone
number is listed, it will show your name and address and give you two
map options:
Yahoo and MapQuest. See how accurate the map is to your home.

Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number,
be it a home or business address, could use this feature to locate a
physical street address, and receive directions on how to get there from
anywhere in the country. In the age of the Internet communication we all
know the dangers of this -- for adults and CHILDREN!

People you do not even know will not only have your name and phone
number but they will also have complete and accurate directions to your
home.

Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE
their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping
feature.

You will first need to check if your number is listed in this manner by
attempting a search-entering your full telephone number separated by
dashes (e.g. 555-555-5555). If the number appears in the mapping
database, an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first
or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take
you to a page containing a description of the service, and a link to
request your number be removed from the database.

So far unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers, do not show up.

PLEASE, TAKE A MOMENT TO CHECK YOUR OWN PHONE NUMBERS
& FORWARD THIS ON TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS - YOUR LOVED
ONES WILL NOT MIND GETTING THIS EMAIL!

What's your source on this?
What do you mean?

He means, this just turned up in your email inbox, right? Highly trustworthy. :p

Google couldn't find my house if they tried.

It worked for my phone number.
The source is irrelevant if the information is verified. Since it's not that hard to simply read the message and try it, I did not and do not deem it necessary to post the source.

Double :p:p to you.

If your info is on Google, that means it's probably in the phone book. I don't see what the big deal is.

It's a case of "Elizabeth Smart" kidnapping paranoia.

I know it's not any protection, but it makes me feel better. come to think of that, I think we're going unlisted when we move.

Yes, whatever is listed in the phonebook is listed on Google. If you're unlisted then your information is most likely not there.

I love how the internet can cause paranoia over the simplest things...

Instead of the lame phone call 3 days later, I'll just show up at her house.
I bet she would appreciate it.
It would go to show her that you're the type of guy that would go out of your way for her.

Hahahaa! See if you can get the Guinness record for Most Restraining Orders. :p

Eh, my local phonebook has a reverse cross-reference, and I can goto www.whitepages.com and do the same thing... Google just is looking in that database, nothing new. You could probably just call up directory services and get the same result as well.
