What are the advantages of using this instead of Google Maps?
Basically, Google Earth is 3D. It allows more of a "geographical" look at the earth and allows you to get a sense of things like the elevation of mountain ranges much more easily. It's not as practical for everyday use as Google Maps/Navigation, but it's got way more eye candy. You can "fly" around the earth and look around in any direction or angle.

The app runs well on my Nexus One. I really like the Wikipedia layer - you can click to view location-tagged articles on various geographical features and other things like corporate HQs in some instances.

I just installed it on my Droid. It runs really smooth and works surprisingly well considering the data streaming required. My Droid is overclocked to 1GHz, so I don't know how well it would run on a stock one.
