Google doodle 5/23/13

This image was created by a high school senior winner of the Doodle 4 Google contest
http://www.google.com/doodle4google/
The theme of this contest was “My Best Day Ever…". Her entry depicted her at age 10 greeting her father after an 18 month deployment in Iraq. This is a fantastic way to start the Memorial Day weekend.

I thought the pic and its theme were mediocre and overused, until I read your description and RL story.

Oh wow, I totally saw that wrong on first glance. I thought it was a kid growing up to be a soldier, then returning home to be homeless. This is much nicer.

As the wife of someone who gave over 20 years to the military and the mother of 2 children who welcomed their father home from countless deployments, that got me more than a little verklempt.

Reminds me of deployment #2, everyone rushing to their families and embracing. And one of our guy's wife tells him that she wants a divorce. Pretty soul crushing day for that guy.

lol. that's exactly how i saw it at first--but just a soldier suddenly being homeless upon return. was like, wow google, throwing some heavy punches during this, of all weekends... 😀

It's a nice image, though. gave me a little tear. damn that girl!

I've looked at this picture several times and have no idea how you guys could have got to that conclusion.

Yeah. I'm not good at reading symbolism in artwork, but to infer that this somehow shows someone growing up into a homeless soldier... Are you blind? Are you thinking the final frame was a soldier panhandling with a poorly-drawn guitar or something? I'm so confused.

I thought it was touching, and I'm hardly the sentimental type.

I couldn't really see the daughter in the last image. At first sight, my brain interpreted a hunched-over bearded homeless man holding out a cup, with a sac next to him.

I doubt KT and I were the only victims of this brain trickery.

Basically, this:

Yep, this. Glad I'm not totally alone on that one. 😀

and are you a perv if you don't see the lamp?

:hmm:

Speaking of not seeing it... I don't understand how this uses the letters of the word google... I kinda sorta see a g in the shadow of the first image but nothing on the second g. So it's just that she put the letters for google in the backdrop and drew a good story in the front??

So you are seeing a girl grow up into an adult, homelsss man with a beard, which said beard now has a hat sitting on it?

I get the you can see two things pictures, but this isn't one that checks out.😕

An old woman. I remember seeing this illusion a long time ago. I think I saw the old woman first but now I definitely see the lady looking away.

EDIT: Just saw the old woman. Man, it's hard to see that shit sometimes. The way I did it was to try to find the nose. I couldn't figure it out at firs.t Then I did. The jaw of the lady looking away is the bottom of the nose for the old woman. The choker on the young lady is the mouth of the old lady. The bottom neck to chest is the chin of the old woman. The ear is the eye. Etc.
