it opens in firefox for me just fine, and it does a pretty good job of searching.

People mean that it does not index Firefox. Not that it won't open in it.

Just installed this, indexing now.

Read in MaximumPC's Longhorn article about indexing files on your HD for search and this seems to be similar.

I would not be suprised if Google made their own OS one day.

i would have said the same thing, would i have read this post before you 😉
but seriously, i'm thinking of buying shares in Google (let's hope it's a wise choice)

Already made about 16% off of them in the past 2 weeks... they release their quarterly earnings statement thursday night! Friday morning I'm either going to the BMW dealership, or costco to stock up on ramen~

I still want to know why it needs 500 MB of HDD space? Does it create its own indexed database of the filesystem or something. 😕

Next step- Google changes its name to "Ministry of Truth"

Naw, it would be "Ministry of Peace" with a division called "Nightwatch".

😉

That sounds like a good idea.

Reminds me of that fake OS some guy posted about on Slashdot some years ago. He was touting a revolutionary filesystem based on databases or something like that and a bunch of other stuff. People were psyched until he posted again something like: "hahaha, I'm l337 y0u l0s3r5, blah blah lame lame".

...it wouldn't surprise me if google actually pulled it off. Or atleast came out with their own Browser/Email suite.
