Google depreciates SOAP API

In an odd move Google has quietly deprecated their Search SOAP API, will no longer be issuing keys, and have removed the SDK from their site.

Cr@p. I been meaning to get a key, so I can use it with Gnome's Deskbar, but I never got around to it. I guess maybe I should get used to using Yahoo?

Yes, Ajax is what the front end of gmail uses. And yes, google wants people to migrate to the AJAX api. The problem is though, the Gnome Deskbar uses the SOAP api, and I don't know how easy (or how soon) it will be to switch to the AJAX api (if even possible). Plus many web programming books, including the Ruby programming book I have, has instructions for using the Google SOAP api, but not other apis.

Deprecate is the word 🙂. That's for things with declining importance. Depreciate is for things that have declining value.

Really, to be honest, the two words aren't much different. Dictionary.com actually uses "depreciate" in the definition of "deprecate." However, in IT and architectural terms "deprecate" is what is used to refer to an API that has been made obsolete.

ha, you're right. I guess I just looked at the URL I had copied when I titled this thread. I thought it was odd, but I was like "well, that's what it says." Anyway, this is all tangent.
