Google continuing to screw youtube

So, all us 'slow' internet users are already f'ked on youtube. Since they won't allow us to buffer more than 10-15 seconds, it's nearly impossible to watch a video that you can't stream real-time.

But hey, they're here to help! Now they've added an addition incredible resolution of.... 140! That's right. Now, not only can't you let a video load, you get to have it auto-adjusted down to an obscenely bad resolution.

Congrats google. That was a fantastic fix to your screwing over the buffering system.

I warned you guys about the mess they made of youtube from destroying channels to uncustomized desolate places to screwed up everything else.

But you didnt listen. :colbert:

I laughed when I saw the 140p resolution under settings. That's sub VHS quality right there. Heck, even the original Gameboy had a higher resolution.

YouTube is better when you bypass the browser player. It sucks. Always has, always will. It's best going in there with an app that has direct access to the streams. XBMC on PC. Most mobile apps have direct stream access as well. I know on iOS, it will allow you to fully buffer the video.

This just in:

You get what you pay for.

For most people it's not. Viewing ads is the price being paid.

Given that time=money, what is the value of the fraction of a second I actually watch ads before I divert my gaze to my other monitor or switch browser tabs?

See above.

I don't consider myself to have insanely fast Internet (25mbs ish) and I've never noticed any buffering problems. He'll, I don't think I've ever seen it buffer other than the initial loading of the screen that takes all of 1 sec.

Couple of months ago, Youtube was horrible for me. Constant buffering unless I used 360/240p. Since a while back it's working much better. Don't know what they did. I have a 100Mb/s connection so it should be enough for 1080p.

Google is so incredibly clueless when it comes to YouTube and pretty much everything else. They could be leading the way in supporting vertical videos, allowing the player to change shape to fit the video content, but NOOO, they have to go with enormous pillarboxes instead. Because everyone LOVES those.

Hell, Facebook does vertical videos correctly. When I upload videos from now on, they're going on Facebook. I like my freedom to take videos vertically if I so choose.

Most of the high view content loads ok for me, but watching anything below a [few] million views can be frustrating past 480 resolution.

Lately I've been starting to have issues with HD videos where they buffer quickly (enough to play it without interruptions), but it still pauses to process every 15 seconds or so.

Youtube has gotten pretty much useless to me lately. Unless it's a very popular video that is replicated to any nearby server farms I'm accessing, it seems to run like shit.

Same with PC games, you would have thought alt-tabbing in and out of every PC game would be instantaneous by goddamn year 2013, but no.

I don't consider myself to have a fancy ride, not like those hybrid cars, but on my bicycle I never seem to need to stop at gas stations except maybe if I want to grab a snack.
