i couldnt really get plex to work from a media server aspect. but I could drag a video into chrome, and it works perfectly on the TV. volume seems low though

I'm stuck waiting for mine because the Post Office screwed up 🙁

UPS sent it to the USPS in MA a few towns over from me (not sure what that's all about) and then the USPS sent it to Delaware.

Hmm...so what audio format does chromecast output? From what I've searched, it seems it might be either e-ac3/dd+ or 2.1ch PCM...and that's it?

I have mine connected via optical, through an HDMI switch, to my old receiver which only supports regular dolby digital and dts. I only get 2.1ch PCM, no matter what I try with my switch (monoprice md-415arc). I'm thinking maybe chromecast just doesn't support old-school ac3 output? 🙁

I love the idea of Plex but they need to fix some issues.

1. Plex on some networks causes mini network storms which causes lag on the WAN connection. Myself as well as many others have seen random pings jump from 25ms to >10,000ms for no reason. Turn off plex server, lag goes away. So until they fix that sort of crap, screw plex.

2. No support for music playlists!! I don't want to listen to individual artists or albums...

Plex is definitely not for everyone, but right now it's a really nice complement to ChromeCast. I'm glad I decided to go with Plex when I was looking for a home media organizer years ago.

As for #1, this doesn't seem to be a wide spread issue. My Plex server has been running for at least two years and I've never had this kind of problem.

For #2. I didn't know until recently that Plex does music too. Your post reminded me of it so maybe I could set it up this weekend. Luckily I never bought into the 'playlist' trend. I listen to music the old fashion way. If I want to listen to something, it's per album, in order.

Yeah it obviously doesn't happen to everyone but for those of us that it does it really sucks : (

To not be entirely negative post guy, I should mention that Plex was amazing for serving content netflix style to my phone and tablet over 3G/4G/LTE networks or the wifi at work. I was very happy with it until I discovered this WAN lag, network storm issue.

Also I should mention to people as a warning, the issue is most prelevant if you have a recent model LG Smart TV connected to your network. I believe the problem partially lies with a poorly written app that sends way way too many requests to the server and the server being stupid enough to reply to said requests en-mass.

^ Stinks man - I hope they get it sorted out for you. Plex is huge in my house. I have Roku's at all of the TV's now and many tablets and smartphones that access the content as well. I have a 6 core workhorse Plex server feeding all of these devices. I would love to try out a Chromecast with Plex installed - I would think the interface would be better than the Roku one.

Can you plug the Chromecast into anything besides a TV? I use a projector as my main TV and it has a receiver with HDMI out. A bluray with a USB port is attached to it. Could I plug the Chromecast into the bluray players USB?

I cant remember where I read this but someone was wondering if any ios apps could build in support for Chromecast and if Apple would allow it, that would be big

It connects to the display via HDMI. USB is an optional power source.

EDIT: The other option is to plug it into the wall.

you would plug the chromecast into the receiver's HDMI in.

Well the power source is not optional. It requires power over USB, wether you plug that USB into a USB A/C adapter or to a TV or other device that has USB ports is the only option.

Finally got my back ordered one in. Literally took me less than five minutes to begin streaming. Was so darn easy to set up.

Netflix and YouTube work perfectly. I finally got around to trying Chrome mirroring, and videos seem to stutter quite a bit. The cast plug-in indicates poor connection speed between my laptop and Chromecast. Need to troubleshoot it a bit.

I bought a Chromecast from Amazon and had it shipped to Trinidad and Tobago. I can't download the Chromecast Android app because it's not available for my country and for some reason I can't set it up via the browser either. 🙁

Edit: I got an apk from off the net and got it set up.
