I have it hooked up to a Sony 22" 3d display, my TV is probably 3-4 years old and is a Samsung. I know it has a USB for updates and can try it later

Give me a site you want me to try. I went to twit.tv and played a video. I have also dragged and droopped video files and mp3s into the browser tab and they play. It wasnt smooth but the youtube app was smooth. It warned me my local network was probably causing issues

Can you explain this to me? I just tried with an AVI but not sure how to do it, it played in VLC instead.

If I understand correctly, the Chromecast CANNOT be used to output ANY content from the PC to the TV. Like if I wanted to use my TV as a PC monitor, I CANNOT do it with a Chromecast. If this is true, can someone please tell me why? I cannot understand why the Chromecast cannot be used as a computer monitor when it is possible to output movies....

I bought on amazon after they went out of stock and got it on backorder. Any chance they will still honor this or do I need to cancel.

Your phone/pc /tablet basically tells the chrome cast the URL of the video you are wanting to play and then the chrome cast downloads the file directly from the web server it is located on. It does not come from the device you are using. I am sure someone will come out with a hack or app that makes what you are talking about very quickly though.

Not sure, I have all my stuff going into my tv hdmi then audio going out of my tv via optical to my rec

You're only going to get stereo sound this way. TVs optical out or ARC only transmit 5.1 sound from the built in apps in the TV . Sound from the TVs HDMI inputs will be sent to the receiver in stereo only.

I picked up mine about 3 hours ago and got an email from Best Buy with the code. I redeemed to me account and it worked fine. Is there a way from chrome on my Galaxy S4 to cast a tab or just from the PC?

If I traveled much, this would be a godsend to use in hotel rooms, as it is, I don't travel that much and have a HTPC hard wired to my projector, no lag.

Chrome on the desktop occasionally crashes using it on HTPC, dunno how stable it is with a dongle.

I also use an MHL capable cradle for my phone already with a BT keyboard and mouse, it's pretty slick.

I got rid of my rear speakers years back and only use two fronts and a center/sub

At least they clarified that if you ordered before they ended the promo, yo'll still get it, even if you don't have your stick yet.

anyone know how to fix this issue? It keeps happening.

That Netflix deal seems like a big scam by Google. I contacted Amazon and they knew nothing about it, but said they'd forward my question to their promotions department to investigate. $35 is still nice, but a Promo that doesn't even last a day, I bought mine from Amazon almost immediately when it showed up.

Anyway, not sure if anyone else mentioned it yet. But the USB "Service" port on my TV does power my Chromecast. I like that.

I talked to Amazon's customer support, and apparently, Amazon released an internal memo stating that anyone that purchased from Amazon after 8 PM EST on July 24 (Wednesday) will not be getting the promo code.

CS recommended this:
02:34 AM(GMT) xxxx(CSA): Call them and complain up a storm.
I edited the person's name out for reasons. So tomorrow I'll be calling Netflix and Google and asking many questions regarding this. I will get my 3 months!

Also, the CS rep I talked to said that if I can't get the 3 months from Netflix or Google, then he will credit me the $24 to my Amazon account. 😀

That's pretty nice of Amazon, even though they really shouldn't be responsible for something like that.

yes, works through a receiver. hdmi cec works via a receiver as well. with everything off, telling my phone to play something via chromecast will turn on receiver and tv and set inputs properly. netflix played in 5.1

Anyone notice that if you are casting a video and pause the video for a few minutes, then resume it, it'll play for a few second this stop and show a spinning circle forever? If I pause it a second time and immediately press play again it works around the problem. At first I thought maybe it was just a bug Casting from the Chrome browser, but it is happening with the Nexus 4 YouTube app as well. Wondering if it's just me.

PS. Apparently I can't even re-pause and resume it once it happens on the Android YouTube app like I could in Chrome. Hmm... More annoying than I originally thought.
