Google Chromecast

Hmm... I forgot about that. I see nothing in my Chromecast box that has a Netflix code or anything. No idea how to redeem the 3 free months.

Can't say I'm interested. My TV already runs off my HTPC almost exclusively so I don't really have any application for it personally.

I couldn't disagree more. None of the things you mentioned are small enough to fit in a pocket, work without a remote of some kind (I always have my phone on or near me, can't say the same about remotes). I have an Apple TV and it's getting put up for sale right after I hook my Chromecast in.

I do see one good use for this... and that would be plugging it into a hotel room TV to watch movies without having to pay a fortune for their pay per view service.

Something tells me that the hotels will catch onto this quickly, though, and start disabling the free HDMI ports on their TV's 🙂

Since you need a second device, it's already possible to use that device (MHL, miracast, DVI or HDMI cable with laptop) to watch your own content on their TVs.

My HTC One came with a wireless streamer. Works great, mirrors my phone on my TV, and I can use all my apps, Netflix, browse the Internet, etc turning it into a second screen for my phone.

Nothing on the Amazon receipt.

This says it should have been emailed to me when I purchased it. How would Google know though that I purchased it from Amazon. I hope this wasn't just for Google Play orders only.

You'll get emailed the code in a week:

Get a 3-Month Netflix Gift Code with Purchase of a Google Chromecast

Purchase a Google Chromecast and receive a Netflix gift code redeemable towards 3 months of Netflix streaming service on a new or existing account. The gift code will be emailed to you a week after your Chromecast has shipped.
Follow the instructions below to redeem your code:

1) Go to netflix.com/chromecast.
2) Enter the Netflix code from your email and click 'Continue'.
3) If you are a new member, you will be asked to create a Netflix account. No billing information is required.
4) If you are an existing Netflix member, login into your Netflix account and your subscription will be credited for 3 months worth of streaming services.

Give me a site you want me to try. I went to twit.tv and played a video. I have also dragged and droopped video files and mp3s into the browser tab and they play. It wasnt smooth but the youtube app was smooth. It warned me my local network was probably causing issues

Does your TV has a USB port built in for installing firmware updates? Could you check to see if said USB port is capable of powering the Chromecast or will we have to use the wall adapter?

Wow that sucks. I really hope Amazon honors the Netflix promo. I bought it within ten minutes of it going on sale through amazon

Yes but it wasnt real smooth but keep in mind this is a beat feature and will probably get better and my network is not the fastest
