I don't have very many practical uses for it but I'll get it.

I'm hoping for more details and interested in ..
Can I display / stream local content from my devices
Can I mirror a game to play on my TV

I'm assuming they'll be updating it as time goes on to allow mirroring of device content. However, at the moment, it just looks like it's receiving info via the cloud to stream. Essentially, it's connecting directly to the link/feed for that certain video and puts in full screen.

I'm not sure if it has Wi-Fi direct or DLNA or anything of that sort.

I can definitely see this as being completely useful.

ok stupid excited for this device. Buying one as soon as hits Amazon with Prime Shipping.

This is exactly what I have been waiting for. Was about to pull the trigger on apple tv but this is way better.

Edit Bought it from Amazon.

This thing is insanely good by the looks of it. Absolutely buying at least one. I wonder if I could just stack the netflix 3 month promotionals one on top of the other. I am guessing . . . . . yes. Also waiting for it to hit Amazon as I have credit there. Can't come soon enough.

Given the apparently limited functionality it seems more like a far less expensive (and still more useful!) Nexus Q.

Still I don't really see the point. It's nice that it's so cheap but my TV already has Netflix, YouTube, and a DLNA client built into it, and I also have a WD TV that does all the same stuff. I suppose if I didn't have any of that functionality built into my TV it might be nice.

I think most people don't have that functionality, myself included.

If/when they (Google or community) get local streaming on this thing, I will be stoked. Even with what it currently does I'm excited to get one.

Anyone have any idea whether it will require a new netflix account?

I'm not sure if I have much use for this, but for the price, maybe. It would be easier than connecting my phone via MHL to my non-smart TV. Other than that?

If i understand correctly, this will only stream from the cloud? So local content will not stream from my computer or tablet. AKA from vlc?

Nope, you can apply the 3 month credit to an existing Netflix account.

not at first, but there's an SDK which apps will hopefully support. i hope it will be possible to play local content.
