OK,
Ive looked all over the net to no avail. Usually I can solve these simple problems, but i just cant figure it out and its driving me NUTS!!!. Google Chrome keeps freezing randomly and OFTEN. like every 30 secs to 10mins it will freeze. It seems like it is happening more and more. this is a brand new build so this is very frustrating as i have THE fastest consumer grade processor and THIS happens.

I have tried disabling all extensions. Ive checked to see if the pluggins were clashing. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling. UGH!!!

HELP! I dont want to switch browsers either. It froze on me 2 times while typing this!!!.

You don't necessarily have to do a full switch, but you may want to try another browser just to see how limited the issue is.

Did you import chrome settings, or is this a fresh profile?

One thought might be the graphics drivers, as Chrome does use 3D acceleration.

Edit: so games, Windows is running fine. It's just the browser?

Those are some crazy specs in your signature. Ketchup79's questions are all very good and I'd like to add that you should probably check out your task manager to see if anything is hogging resources.

Also run malwarebytes and an antivirus scans, adware seems to be going crazy lately and I had to clear a ton of stuff from my brother's PC.

Hello,
Thanks for the tips guys. I have tried IE and there seems to be no issue. I just hate using it because I'm so used to chrome. Plus all my settings are synced to my gmail.

You know now that I say that, I might try changing my gmail address that I'm signed into and see if that's corrupting chrome for some reason. I have tried so many things to no avail.

I will try changing my gmail and see if that makes a difference. Any other suggestions are welcome.

And yes, everything else seems to be working fine. Games run like butter. Windows runs good. It's just chrome. I will also try a reinstall of my graphics drivers if the gmail thing doesn't work.

Is firefox an option for you?

Cool Let us know how it goes. I like the sound of your sync idea (although somewhat hope that's not it since that is a nice feature).

Seconding this. Firefox is definitely the best alternative to Chrome. I've noticed lately that Chrome isn't the once snappy beast it was. I remember being able to run it on a C2D+2GB RAM laptop with no problems.

Firefox on the other hand is non-profit and always has the best practices. You do sacrifice things like Google sync if you are heavily invested in their ecosystem though, but you gain freedom!

You could uninstall chrome then reinstall it.
I mean if you really think your system is not infected.

If your system was mine I would perform a total service job on it: clean out all trash/temp folders. Get rid of stuff/uninstall things you have not used and put it onto an external hard drive or thumb drive.

Hello, I have tried most of the things you are suggesting. Uninstall/reinstall, delete temp folders ETC.

BUT, I think something might have worked. I get home from work today and I turn on the beast and so far no freeze ups.... another <<<<BUT>>>> I am not signed into my gmail in chrome right now. I reset to default settings the other day, and I dont remember signing out. But its not freezing...

LOL Im scared to check my email. I remember having problems with my droid smartphone about a year ago when it wouldn't sync properly to my phone. I wonder if this is a similar problem.... Ill update soon. Thanks for all suggestions and support. I love anandtech forums!!!

It could be maybe some options were reset inside of chrome settings.

Addons can kill a browser seriously.

Hello,

Last update I told y'all that it was back to normal... Well, that is far from the truth. Chrome is still running VERY sluggish and freezes consistently/constantly.
I am about fed up with it. I 'desynced' my gmail account, and put everything to stock settings. That, for some reason, seemed to help a little. Like maybe it wasn't happening as much. I think this was probably a slight placebo effect. LOL. I wanted it to work soooo bad. I also have tried virus/malware scans; both have come up empty. I am thinking of trying one more thing: switching to a different AV software. I actually just thought of this as I type.

Any other suggestions are welcome....

What AV are you using now (or were you using)? Make sure that if you uninstall it, the any add-ons (extensions) to your browser are removed as well.

I was using Kasperski that was included with my RVE (I wanted to try it and now Im switching back to norton which is included with my ISP...

If it was kasperski causing it, I guess I wont be going back to that lol...

Also, I have made sure all add-on's and extentions were disabled as well. We will see what happens.........

I know when I was testing Kaspersky a couple weeks ago it did a check on every hit it found on a Google search. This was in Firefox. Didn't notice a big slowdown, but mildly annoyed that I couldn't easily find an option to disable that from the GUI, and Firefox would not let me disable it either.

Honestly, I didn't try too hard though. Kaspersky seemed to do fine, but it was more of a try-out than an "I am thinking about buying this" type of thing.

Hello,

I uninstalled kaspersky and installed norton. So far no freezes. BUT I also have been having some trouble with my isp today. (on/off/on/off all day) IDK maybe it was this problem with the isp all along. I guess well never know unless it starts acting up again. But there is a good chance it was the kaspersky I think. Just my gut feeling.
