Google Chrome is crap

It's all about firefox. Chrome has been a piece of crud since it's conception on android.

At least on my HTC Sensation and HTC One X. I think it actually ran better on the Sensation.

I found firefox to be a terrible browser on my old Tegra 2 device and had to use Dolphin instead.
This was last year so I am assuming the browser has since gotten better.

Since then, Firefox has become smoother than Chrome, not that it's a hard task since Chrome is fairly laggy in comparison to other browsers even on hardware like the Galaxy S4.

In particular, it has noticeably greater input lag for whatever reason.

I agree with you. FF used to stink, and I still think its not that great, but given that Chrome's done nothing to improve for over a year now, FF has leapfrogged them.

Why can't we just have a good simple browser like Chrome or Safari and just have it work. All the other browsers try too hard with a bunch of features and then Naked browser just looks butt ugly.

I don't particularly love Chrome, but I never have any issues on my S4.

In terms of frill-less browsers, I use Opera Mobile for that (it's funny because on the Desktop, Opera has the _most_ frills). It's a bit low on frills though since it doesn't have stuff like tab sync.

Oh it works fine. It's just that even on my Galaxy S4, its performance is noticeably poorer. Combined with its inability to properly scale font sizes for forums, I just don't use it.

To say that Chrome has done nothing to improve over the last year is ignorant.

Every update gets it running a bit better on my GNex. On newer hardware like the 2013 Nexus 7, it runs perfectly smooth.

It still has some work to do, but don't lie about the improvements that have gone into it.

The advantage of the stock browser with quick controls is that there is no interface to look at. I'm sorry but Naked Browser looks terrible, even if it is fast.

Since I only have Nexus devices (and my previous phone was on Gingerbread), I haven't ever used the quick controls. I just watched a video about them, however, and I think they look pretty cool. One of the other things which bothers me about Firefox is that the address bar doesn't reappear very easily when scrolling back up (or swiping from the top, which I can't quite get the feel for because I end up dragging down the notifications menu instead). If they had a quick settings button to bring it back, it wouldn't be so bad.

And, to add to the list I made earlier, Chrome has another advantage over Firefox, at least on phones: tab management. The tab list is much more fluid and allows you to sort through open tabs much quicker. You can also change tabs by swiping from the left or right side of the screen.

This is definitely something I use all the time when I use Chrome on my phone. That and the synced bookmarks and history are real time savers. I just need those quick controls!

I don't use Chrome simply for the reason that they stupidly don't offer a dedicated bookmarks button. I use Habit browser and it's excellent.

All you need to do is type in the first letter or two and your bookmarks are there. If you open a new tab there is a bookmarks button.

Still much easier to have my bookmarks listed and acessable via an always there on-screen button.

To me Chrome (for Windows) has always been horrible in pulling up history or bookmarks through the URL bar. It pulls up history, but it seems to focus on the searching content of the page. They've gotten better bit by bit, but I used to just type "Cya" on Firefox and I'd pull up CyanogenMod threads where the title of the page is "CyanogenMod....", especially the one I'd hit up everyday. On Chrome 3/6 of it would be a suggested query, and the others would be because Cyanogenmod was in the content of the page, but not necessarily the titles.

On Android, I notice that Chrome just prioritizes searches over anything else, and not web history or bookmarks. It's absolutely terrible.

Noticed some lag in Chrome when I first got my S4. The stock samsung browser definitely felt smoother but lacked some features/options.

I installed the GPe rom and use chrome. Not sure if it is the rom or the recent updates, but scrolling seems much better now. Pretty smooth and I am happy with it.

Chrome sucks on my N7. Always freezes up, and the stupid autohide location bar throws off the touch location for a few seconds either after displaying or hiding the bar. I will touch a link, and the touch will register on a link about an inch below.

Sites such as statesman.com, deadspin.com, or glassdoor.com always cause Chrome to shit the bed.

Installed Firefox and it is quite a bit better.

I've been using Chrome Beta on my GS2 and I'm pretty happy with it. Admittedly I've only tried Opera, Firefox, and Dolphin as alternatives, but Chrome runs just as well as they do on my phone and seems to have a few features they lack. It may be one of those cases where if I became accustomed to one of the other browsers I'd have difficulty with Chrome, but I haven't seen any compelling reasons to switch.

The newest version has a bug that f's up the search input box. When you type a word to search then the space bar at add a second word it adds a copy of the first word you typed in and you can't backspace to delete it -- plain garbage!

The frecency algorithm is one of those geeky features that I love about Firefox. Mozilla has a few of those that don't get much attention, but if you've learned to use them, it's hard to live without them.

They've generally done a fantastic job with bookmark management, which is yet another thing that keeps me coming back to Firefox time and time again. Also, I hate the bookmark folder icon on Chrome. That said, on mobile devices, bookmark management kinda sucks all around.
