Google Chrome, Firefox, Explorer... Are these money makers

Are internet browser money makers for their creators? Does Google make money of the proliferation of Chrome, or Mozilla off Firefox? Do they do it for data collection reasons, can they sell profiles of users listing what sites they visit?

Also, having a centrally-manageable browser (Internet Explorer 5.0 through infinity) is a selling point for the Windows / Active Directory platform as a whole, to customers who have large fleets to deploy, audit, patch and control. And having a >10-year support lifecycle also gives corporate customers reassurance. So I think those are a couple of the benefits Microsoft gets from their own browsers.
