it shouldn't be too hard. google can just have some sort of wizard that prepares custom payment links, generates the html, and lets you plug it into your auction. the missing component is the absolute integration that exists between paypal and ebay....but as far as simply working, i don't know why gbuy wouldn't work.
This is why it probably won't work, from the eBay seller policy:
Permitted on eBay.com: Sellers may offer to accept PayPal, credit cards including Mastercard/Visa /Amex/Discover, debit cards and bank electronic payments online for eBay purchases. Sellers may also offer to accept bank-to-bank transfers, often known as bank wire transfers or bank cash transfers. Sellers may accept COD (cash on delivery) or cash for in person transactions. Sellers may offer to accept payment through Certapay and Propay. Sellers may offer to accept personal checks, money orders, cashier?s checks, certified checks and other negotiable instruments.

Not permitted on eBay.com: Sellers may not solicit buyers to mail cash. Sellers may not ask buyers to send cash through instant cash transfer services (non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers) such as Western Union or Moneygram. Sellers may not ask buyers to pay with Stormpay. Finally, sellers may not request payment through online payment methods not specifically permitted in this policy.
If eBay considers it an "online payment method" like in the last line, then it wouldn't be allowed. It'd be very easy for them to amend the agreement to make it expressly forbidden if they wished. There'd be no reason to do so, based on their criteria for what is/isn't a safe payment method, but they'd have plenty of competitive reason to do so if Google Checkout takes off.

The Googleization of the Internet will not be complete until we have Google Background Check for employers and dating services.

I was about to signed up because I saw that I can get $5 for using my Citi Card, plus 10% off for $20 purchase, but Buy.com is not one with that free promotion... damn...

Was there some underground marketing campaign: "trust google"?

But speaking for myself... I have to say... I do trust google.
Trust... hmm... more like because everyone likes a new underdog and Yahoo was king at the time ?

Its perfect for Google because now they can match up all the data they already have on people with their names and addresses, as well as their purchases.

No thanks.

WTF? This will never be bigger than PayPal, I'm getting sick of Google trying to do 13124523673423 things, just let me search.

How is offering additional services preventing you from searching? Why can't a company expand it's business offerings to make more money? Why should it just do search? Oh wait, your in the vocal minority who don't know what they're talking about...

Its mail. I need a "Compose", "To", "Subject" and "Send" button. I dont need a calendar, I dont need it to call my phone.
I just need mail. Yahoo fits the bill.
ok... your reasoning... makes no sense. Yahoo has a calendar too.. you don't have to use it, same w/ google. gmail has a compose, to, subject and send button too. I can understand you not liking google and prefering yahoo, that's fine, but use a logical argument.

and what does your cell phone have to do w/ anything
If you want to sign up for GMail and don't have an invite, you need a mobile phone capable of receiving text messages. Their fruity way of stopping dupe accounts, ignoring the fact that you could sign up the first one with your phone and then invite yourself to another 100 accounts.

you're telling me you don't know ANYONE that has an invite? besides, he said he doesn't need it to call his phone... or did he mean text his phone? The better argument would be gmail is technically still beta, and he has concerns over privacy.

Fee structure

Promotional coupons to get you to sign up.

Not sure if it works for Ebay yet. I think they would rather use it with thier Google Base for a while until they build up the user base.

The undercutting fee structure is pretty interesting. Google charges 2% of the sale & 20 cents for all transactions while Paypal charges 2.9% and 30 cents for the vast majority of their transactions.

go google! wish it was free though 🙂

Google is basically an advertising company and their services are used for the equivalent affect as spyware.

Its no secret, except apparently to you. Nor is it paranoia but simply an awareness of their obviously successful business strategy. I suggested quite a while ago they'd come up with something involving credit cards to enhance their depth of personalized profiling, but I guess their tech savvy still makes many people just like you all warm and fuzzy inside nevertheless, which never ceases to amaze me.

Thought Google Checkout would rock but I'm already disappointed. Went to buy.com put a LCD monitor in and clicked buy only to be greeted with a message that some items can't be bought using Google Checkout.

My buying fever has cooled.

I gave up my yahoo mail for my gmail for the pop3. yahoo want me to pay for that.

Hmm, I just did a variety of searches for items like cameras, computers, memory, fidges, printers and shoes and didn't get a single "speedy little shopping cart" in my search results. Yippee. Google rocks but this new service is somewhat of a disappointment.
