Google can find it but I can't?

I want to download these PDFs from this site but I can't because it won't let me list the directory where they're stored.

Yet If I search that site with google, google can pick up all of the PDFs and I'm wondering why it's able to pick up the PDFs yet when I try to look at the root directory, it won't let me. Is google doing something that I don't know about in order to obtain this information?

It is the way the site is designed.

It might be deliberate but more probably a mistake.

email them if it is really important to you.

It might have been a temporary or localized problem. I'm not having any problem viewing and downloading any of the PDF files in your search results.

edit: Since you mentioned getting a full directory listing, it looks like the site is set up so that files can be accessed/downloaded by name, but the directory itself cannot be listed.

That's what I meant, and since it is that way, I want to know how google was able to get a list of those items if the directory can't be viewed.

Google use search bot to search and parse web pages. Web page is just a text file that has a lot of links to other files (graphics, video, pdf, other web pages)

Google just parses from the start of the website and find every links in those web pages and present them to the viewers.

You might just seacrh "how google works"

here is one.

Most websites don't allow directory browsing, instead, they use web pages which include the links to other files.
