The AT in the latest version of Google Assistant in Beta is now smart enough to have phone conversations with restaurants and hair salons in order to make reservations. A demo is here:

https://www.cnet.com/features/googl...ome-the-most-lifelike-ai-voice-assistant-yet/

With the "um's" and "er's" they added, the Google Assistant is now good enough to fool the other person on the other side of the phone to think that they're talking to a human.

Yup... this technology is going to come in handy when Skynet takes over and starts building Terminators.

They added the um's & ah's, plus the sound of keyboard typing, to the Apple Store call-in numbers a couple years ago. SUPER CREEPY!

The purpose of asking Google Assistant to book something for me is so I can simply request it - set it and forget it. But at the same time, I want to know it's actually done especially if I have to drive any distance and show up. So I would want to confirm that it actually requested and confirmed what I want, which defeats the purpose of asking Assistant for automating such reservations.

next thing you know, Google assistant will be minting its very own cryptocurrencies.

Why not? Both The Simpsons and Silicon Valley (the TV show) did ICO's recently as well. All the cool kids have their own custom crypto now :)

so one thing I was wondering about these demos, in 2-party consent states wouldn't you need to be informed and consent to talk to the assistant since it is essentially recording the convo?

All these "assistants" like Google, Alexa etc are practically modern day skynet. They record and store your voice to sell the info to advertisers and to the government/authorities. It's a stupid idea to have any of that crap in your house. If you don't care enough about privacy then get rid of all your curtains too.
