Google aqnd Android have gone mental

Lollipop came to my original (1st gen) Nexus 7 yesterday so I let it upgrade to Android 5.0. With it I noticed that I was no longer able to access the Photos (Gallery) app without a) having a Google+ account and b) signing into a Google+ account.

Fuck Google. Fuck Android. Between them and Apple I am starting to believe the least intruding company is M$. With each Android update I find myself feeling less and less private and glad I choose to use it as a disposable item with no feelings toward it if it were to be stolen.

Use a different app?
Pretty much this. The gallery and photos apps were redundant anyway. Besides, complaining about needing a Google+ account to use android is like composing about needing to have a Facebook account to use Facebook.

I think you got it all wrong. "Photos" is "Gallery" for Google+. If you don't have (and don't want) Google+, then you don't need "Photos".

Tell us how you really feel OP.

I too hated it when I had to create a Dropbox account to use Dropbox, or a Netflix account to use Netflix, or a Google Account to use Gmail. After an uncontrollable fit of rage I did realize that I was free to use other apps/services that did not share this unreasonable requirement...

I dont know what the hell you are talking about but on the Nexus 5 that I have in hand I dont need to sign into anything or have a google account.
It only asks me to sign in when I first open the app but then I clicked "No thanks" and thats it

Now go sit in a corner and wear your tinfoil hat while crying to yourself

Do you really believe this analogy makes sense?

Edit: It looks like the OP had a misunderstanding and (almost) everyone is jumping on a chance to bully. I don't know what drives that urge.

I think OP is the only person that complained his two year old Android device was eligible for an upgrade. He is bitching about one minor update, while we are all amazed that device wasn't dumped.

Did you read the same nonsensical post I did and you still don't see what drove that urge?

If he came in here with a question or was even upset that he thought that you needed a Google+ account to use the Photo app(which you dont) then it would have been fine.
He came in here totally misinformed and ranted.

Uh, what?

I never use Google+, but use Android daily.

Yeah I really meant to say " Google apps" rather than android specifically. The point still being though that registering for a Google account is not that big of a deal.

So you can't even look at your photo gallery without having a Google + account?

I have an old Bionic with Android 4.1.2

Then why dont they call it google plus photos so I know what the GOD DAMN CRAP THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!???????????????

Even worse than that, he bitched about his device getting an update when quite simply the fact that his tablet ISN'T an obsolete piece of tech is a Christmas Miracle. I mean, there are many people who bought Android devices back in 2012 who wish they could get Lollipop and the Nexus 7 and 4 might be the only ones.

I guess to me its like someone complains about the president when their state has a budget shortfall. Or you give a homeless person a free meal and he complains that it is too hot.

Is there a valid complaint in there? Yes, yes there is. Google has been pushing for Google Plus integration all over, and it has the effect of pushing a service few people want. But OP didn't opine in such a eloquent way, instead he stuck on a tin foil hat and started making completely invalid claims.

Are you guys saying there is no more default photo gallery and any photo taken with any android device will be in the Google + photo gallery associated with the account?

Yeah, I'm going to give you that. They could easily call it exactly what it is, but decided not to. The first time I saw this app (after the KitKat update, I think) I was wondering what this 'Photos' app is, but then as soon as I clicked on it I immediately realized that it's Google Plus Photos.

I don't think this has been true for a while, too. Google used to push G+ integration all over their services, but has been decoupling more and more services from it in the past few months, after Vic Gundotra left.
